Mookhi is the alias of Olympia Henshaw, a 22-year-old Sydney-based electronic musician with the world at her feet.
She’s just unveiled her self-produced debut single ‘Foul Play’ which is taken from her forthcoming EP ‘Lost & Found’ (due February 24). Falling somewhere between dusty pop and restrained house, the combination of lonesome vocals and solemn melodies sees ‘Foul Play’ pack a serious emotional punch.
“Foul Play was produced on a plane,” explains Henshaw. “I started butchering some of my piano chords. From there grew a dark 89 layered track, with experimentation using different amps, effects and found samples (some recorded within plane trip itself). Back in Sydney, I took the track to local artist, Billy Fox, who put down perfectly crafted vocals. His lyrics inspired my concept behind the upcoming film clip.”
Growing up in both Hong Kong and India, the enigmatic creative has absorbed her musical surroundings, favouring dark eastern-based scales, chords and melodies.
In the coming weeks, Mookhi will reveal an accompanying music video for ‘Foul Play’.
