Dr Dre has confirmed he will be releasing a brand-new album inspired by the work he’s done on the forthcoming biographical film ‘Straight Outta Compton’ on August 7.
One of the longest running album sagas in hip hop is Dr Dre’s ‘Detox’ – the follow-up to Dr Dre’s seminal album, ‘2001’ – Dre has been working on and off on the follow-up for 14-years, actually released two songs from it – ‘Kush’ and ‘I Need a Doctor’ – and has now confirmed he’s completely scrapped it.
“I didn’t like it. It wasn’t good. The record, it just wasn’t good. … I worked my ass off on it, and I don’t think I did a good enough job,” explained the rapper on his Beats Radio show.
‘Detox’, then, is no more, but this week the rapper will release a different album, ‘Compton: The Soundtrack’, which is inspired by the forthcoming biographical film, ‘Straight Outta Compton’, that charts the meteoric rise of NWA.
The album features a huge list of collaborators including Ice Cube, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem, and is already up for pre-order on iTunes.
It might not be ‘Detox’, but we are getting a brand-new Dre album this week, and that’s something we’ve waited for a very long time.
My grand finale. #Compton http://t.co/nbebhWfLqw https://t.co/DF0i2fqaQF
