Hans Zimmer is helping out with the Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack

Hans Zimmer has been brought in to help finish off the soundtrack for Blade Runner 2049, it has been revealed.

He’ll be joining composers Jóhann Jóhannsson and Benjamin Wallfisch to try and capture some of the magic of the film’s original soundtrack, which was made by Vangelis.

Zimmer isn’t replacing Jóhann Jóhannsson and Benjamin Wallfisch but has be brought on board to help them get the soundtrack to where it needs to be ahead of the film’s release later this year.

“It’s hard to get to Vangelis’ angle. We have Johann’s breathtaking atmospheric sounds, but I needed other things, and Hans helped us,” the film’s director Daniel Villeneuve told Studio Cine Live during an exclusive interview.

Villeneuve is said to be going to great lenghts to make sure the film stays true to the original, both visually and for the film’s all important score.

“It’s a very specific sound, and it’s very important that the music of [Blade Runner] 2049 be directly inspired by Vangelis’ work.”
