Update: The Stone Roses will play two shows at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium next year on June 17 and 18 it has been announced. Tickets will go on sale this Friday for an undisclosed price from 9:30am onwards.
This morning the internet was awash with rumours of a new Stone Roses album or tour after posters of the band’s iconic ‘Lemon’ logo began appearing in shop windows throughout Manchester city centre.
Apparently, shop keepers in the city were asked to display the posters this morning but were sworn to secrecy with an announcement expected to be made in the next 24 hours.
Other famous rock stars including Tim Burgess and Liam Fray have been tweeting about the posters too on Twitter.
Could a new album or, and far more likely, a new tour be in the offing? Quite possibly.
The Stone Roses were one of the pioneering groups of the ‘Madchester’ movement that was active during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band’s most successful lineup consists of vocalist Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Mani, and drummer Reni.
