Kompakt Records will release Kölsch’s second artist album – and the follow-up to his debut ‘1997’ – on June 8.

The Danish producer’s album ‘1983’ was inspired by long car journeys he took as a child with is father, “When I was a kid in 1983, we used to drive through Europe every summer on the way to the south of France,” he explains.

“A lot of my early music memories stem from these long travels, as we would listen to all my father’s favorite records on the cassette deck. After getting a walkman, I would make up my own soundtrack for travelling, with early electro and hip hop creeping into my life. My father of course did not like it, and it never graced the official cassette deck of the car, obviously.”

The producer has shared a snippet from one the album’s tracks, ‘DerDieDas’, which will be released as a single on April 20 alongside another album track ‘Two Birds’.

Speaking about ‘DerDieDas’ the producer said, “When I was around 6 my favorite show in Germany was Sesamstrasse. It was a German adaptation of the American Sesame Street I was really crazy about the show, and I used to always watch it at my Grandparents in Germany,” explains the producer.

“The intro song was very dear to me. The lyrics went Der Die Das, Wie Weshalb Warum. Which ruffly translates to He She It, How, For what reason, Why. The intro song spawned this Childish Curiosity in me. I had to explore everything around me. I would bang on lids in the kitchen to hear what they sounded like.

“It was this song that made we want to make sounds with different objects, and experiment with early rythms. From this moment on I was engulfed in anything that made a sound.

You can listen to the full version of his new track, and why wouldn’t you, via Beatport’s new streaming service here.
