Manchester-based Mint Royale have made a name for themselves by being a bit different, from the band’s infamous remix of ‘Singing In The Rain‘ to a bizarre collaboration with Lauren Laverne, they’ve managed to achieve mainstream acclaim whilst maintaining their bonkers productions.
Bonkers, certainly fits their latest song ‘Ring’. It features Willem Dafoe (yes, you read that right) performing a monologue over twinkling synth lines before giving way to a bit of a 90s banger.
According to Popjustice, the song was inspired by podcast interview from Mr Dafoe with the Nerdist – and after some discussions with Mr Dafoe, he agreed to let Royale use it for the basis of the track.
If you’re into your existential pop a la ‘Wear Sunscreen‘ – then the ‘Ring‘ will be right up your street.
