Aeroplane and Purple Disco Machine’s anthemic earworm ‘Counting On Me’ has been given a gospel makeover thanks to the legendary gospel choir The Joubert Singers, of ‘Standing On The Word’ fame.
Released at the tail-end of 2016, and featuring a vocal from Aloe Blacc — the world famous soul singer most known for his 2010 breakthrough single ‘I Need A Dollar’ — the track arguably passed a lot of people by, owing to the fact that it’s a summery track that was released originally near Christmas.
Well, fear not, the track has been given another release with a fresh gospel twist thanks to Spinnin’ Records.
“We produced ‘Counting On Me’ in the same two-day session as ‘Sambal’,” explains Aeroplane’s Vito De Luca. “When we started we wanted to make two types of tracks, firstly a balearic disco track that we would both want to play during our sunset & pool party sets over the summer (‘Sambal’).
“And secondly a modern vocal disco house track that referred to both the classic house and to the indie disco scenes. I always intended to have a choir on it but couldn’t make it happen in time. I’m glad that I got to rectify that and that Phillys Joubert was on board to do it with us.”
