Cult of Helix is a collaboration between The Jezebel’s Hayley Mary and London-based siblings James and Michael Dow.
The trio have just released their debut sermon and it appears to be a tender slice of forward-thinking pop the likes of which you wouldn’t really expect from Mary, whose been fronting Australian indie outfit The Jezebel’s since their inception.
‘Blood’ does show a lot of promise, so much so we’re writing about it, which in case you hadn’t notice is quite a bit deal.
Anyway, as the track progresses it soon loses this tender pop facade in place of something a little more hard-edged and avantguarde. It actually sounds a lot of Goldfrapp — owing to the electro undercurrent and Mary’s spooky delivery — which I think we can all agree is never a bad place to be.
