Warp Records has confirmed today that LFO’s Mark Bell has passed away after complications during an operation last week.
Alongside Gez Varley the duo went onto produce a slew of pioneering techno records including ‘LFO‘, ‘What Is House‘ and ‘Freaky‘.
In 1996 Varley left the group, Bell carried on the LFO name but it was his work with Icelandic singer songwriter Bjork – including her last album ‘Biophilia‘ – where he saw the more commercial and critical success.
Warp records confirmed Mark’s passing via their website, “It’s with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Mark Bell of LFO who died last week from complications after an operation. Mark’s family & friends request privacy at this difficult time.”
To leave behind a perfect dance record is some legacy. RIP Mark Bell.
