With disco domination set firmly in the sights of MofoHifi’s sister label Heavy Disco, their most recent release Heavy Disco Vol.2 is here to stamp its authority on the genre once again.
If you’d already picked up Vol.1 you’ll have enjoyed a good selection of energetic, French style, chopped up dance floor bangers. With their latest release Heavy Disco have decided to kick back, set the mirror ball to slow and take a more downtempo approach. Creating a compilation filled with toe-tapping beats, fresh guitar licks and uplifting hand claps to fit perfectly into an early morning set.
Some of the highlights come in the shape of Holmes Price’s ‘Got That Sound’, a track stuffed full of momentum, groove and melody; Du Tonc’s dreamy, delicate and poppy number ‘Darkness’; Satin Jackets’ head nodding ‘My Original’, featuring vocals from Natalie Conway and She Said Disco’s ‘Chicville’, providing that authentic 70s feel, with sliced vocals, lively strings and a cheeky reference to the robots.
With the imminent Daft Punk release expected to hark back to the era of polyester shirts and 2” heels, you could be fooled into thinking the original dance genre is making a comeback. However, the reality is it never went away, and with plenty of talented producers making their own brand of disco, it takes compilations in the form of Heavy Disco Vol. 2 to remind us what’s right under our noses.
