Vessels combine with Flaming Lips for soaring new single, ‘Deflect The Light’

Vessels have unveiled the first single from their forthcoming album, ‘The Great Distraction’, and it’s a humdinger of a collaboration alongside the eccentrically brilliant Flaming Lips.

“Working with The Flaming Lips was a highlight of this whole process,” says Pete Wright. “There is no facade; Wayne Coyne lives and breathes the very same eccentricity and optimism that pervades The Flaming Lips’ music, and our entire correspondence start to finish has been a torrent of enthusiasm and silliness. They latched on to the spirit of the music we sent and then amplified it a thousand times over, drenching it in their unmistakeable identity but never eclipsing ours. I am so proud of what we made together.”

We’ve been lucky to get a sneak peak of the album and for our money its their best work to date, balancing stadium bangers against heartfelt slow-burners with the likes of Harkin, Vincent Neff (Django Django) and John Grant.

“We’re really aiming to create a living, breathing human version of electronic dance music. There isn’t anything more honest and organic than the human voice. The vocals should be an extension of the music we make and also add something new or interesting,” says the Vessel’s Martin Teff.
