Mr Oizo is selling handmade ‘Reconstructed’ vinyl on eBay — and they look & sound amazing

We applaud anyone who is trying to inject some form of value back into music, and that’s kinda what Mr Oizo is doing with his latest hairbrained idea, Reconstructed vinyl.

From what we can gather, he’s making special one-off vinyl combining two of his tracks on vinyl that have been cut in half and glued together. For example, the first vinyl he put on eBay is a one half of ‘Lambs Anger’ from 2008 combined with 2016’s ‘All Wet’.

Now, while the vinyl do actually work, as you can see from the video below, due to the chop-shop nature of the construction they will eventually destroy your vinyl needle.

So what’s the point of it all? Well, it would appear the by combining two completely different tracks on one vinyl you get endless Oizo-style infinite loops and crazy effects — which I think we can all agree is pretty damn cool.

Currently, ‘Reconstructed #1’ is going for a cool $580.00 — which isn’t cheap, but if you want to own a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork from the legend that is Quentin Dupieux, well now’s your chance.

There’s also a cassette tape, which presumably has been spliced with another, and some other similar vinyl that are quite a bit cheaper, too — check out all the listings here.

Here’s what Oizo says about the artwork/vinyl.

“This very limited piece of art has been handcrafted and signed by the artist himself (Quentin Dupieux aka Mr Oizo aka me). Just like any other piece of art, this unique object is of course fragile and intentionally not perfect. Do not expect a brand new record or you’ll be very disappointed, this one has been manipulated, cut and glued ! It’s playable on any turntable but may damage the needle or eventually destroy it. To enjoy the best of this reconstructed vinyl record, I highly recommend using a scratch-friendly turntable. Comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist + a very special collector gift.”
