Having sold out in a matter of hours when it was released on vinyl at the tail-end of last year, The Black Madonna has finally bestowed those of us who are of a digital persuasion her 10-minute disco extravaganza, ‘He Is The Voice I Hear’.
It’s actually Marea Stamper’s first release since 2013’s ‘Lady Of Sorrows’ EP. During the intervening years, she’s steadily risen to the top of the underground DJ circuit with her eclectic and forward-thinking sets at festivals across the globe and at Chicago’s Smart Bar, where she’s resident.
Made alongside her production partner Rupert Murray, her latest is 10-minutes of disco self-indulgence as Stamper and her cohorts (Davide Rossi and Christoforo LaBarbera feature on strings and keyboard) combine for a string-fuelled, disco-pumper that just oozes good times.
“I have always felt, where making records was concerned, that it was better to say nothing than to rush and put out a lot of music that didn’t say much at all,” explains Stamper in a press release.
“Now, it’s time to share something with you that has been the most exciting project I’ve ever worked on. ‘He Is The Voice I Hear’ is my first all new work since Lady Of Sorrows. It’s been a long journey from there to here. I’m so thrilled to continue the story and, finally realize my dream of bringing together an ensemble of live musicians.”
