In the real world, DJs generally ply their trade at shitty bars and clubs for years before they get their break. In fact, thousands upon thousands probably don’t go any further than that.

But we’re not in the real world anymore, today Tiesto and 7Up released the first episode of their DJ talent show, Your Shot USA.

The premise is pretty much a carbon copy of the Pop Idol/X-Factor. People go to auditions, and then a bootcamp of sorts, until they’re wittled down to the final few, and Tiesto then chooses one of them as the winner.

The whole thing is just cringeworthy from start to finish – who knows maybe there is a future Nina Kravis or Eric Prydz hidden somewhere just waiting to get his or her chance.

But considering one of the entrants admits she’s never touched a set of decks, we can’t help but think it’s just another vacuous talent show for someone who’s just discovered ecstasy for the first time and all of a sudden wants to become a DJ.

What you have here, then, is a show for people who want to get the top in the shortest possible time with the least amount of effort.

The real clincher though is the artwork – just look what it says in top left corner, “No DJ experience necessary”.
