Zac Effron’s EDM-inspired film We Are Your Friends bombed badly on its opening weekend.
Apparently, the film’s opening weekend Box Office was so bad it has set a new record for the lowest opening for any film of its size in history.
Quite an achievement then.
Named after Justice Vs Simian Mobile Disco’s ‘We Are Your Friends’, the film follows a struggling 23-year-old DJ who dreams of becoming a superstar.
Showing at 2,000 cinemas the film grossed just $1.8 million, which is the lowest total for a major film playing at so many cinemas, and with a budget of $6 million it’s still some way off breaking even.
Warner Bros’ Jeff Goldstein spoke about the film’s opening performance bullishly stating, “This was a passion project for Zac Efron, and we believe in him,” adding that, “the result was disappointing, but this was a small film.”
We Are Your Friends will be hitting bargain bins at petrol stations near you soon.
