His name is one synonymous with pounding beats and packed dancefloors, so it’s hard to believe Erol Alkan has never released a solo production. Thankfully that’s set to change next month, as Alkan announces the release of his debut EP ‘Illumination,’ out on December 2 on his own label, Phantasy.
Erol has wet our whistle with an edit of one of the EP’s tracks, ‘Bang’ which delivers the kind of pure fist-pumping power that its title not-so-subtly implies. ‘Bang’ is a drum machine work-out of the most ballistic kind, flecked with a piercing acid-tinged treble that’s just busting to be bashed out in a sweaty basement near you.
With famed residencies at the now deceased indie club Trash, as well as London’s legendary Bugged Out parties, Erol Alkan has been spinning his brand of mutant techno electro disco since the late 90’s, with Illumination a culmination of his influential years in the biz. A man of many hats – remixer, producer, party promoter, DJ and label owner – Erol Alkan continues to cement his place at the top of London’s Electro masthead.
You can catch Erol at Manchester’s Warehouse Project on November 8 for a Phantasy special alongside label alumni Daniel Avery, Nadia Ksaiba, Connan Mockasin and Ghost Culture, and again on December 6 with The Chemical Brothers.
