Toulous-based trio Hypnolove, comprising of Thierry (vocals/keys), Henning (vocals/chords/drums) and Nicolas (guitar/bass), have just released their new album via French label Record Makers, the home of Sebastien Tellier and Kavinsky.

At its heart ‘Ghost Carnival’ is quirky avant-garde pop – so it’ll come as no surprise it’s been produced Ed Banger’s arthouse music maker Mickey Moonlight.

Nicolas explains the album influences: “We needed to find a guideline for this album and although disco and pop built the frame that we worked from, our listening is much wider than that. Artists such as the Walker Brothers, Lucio Battisti, Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Prince, Strafe, ZZ Top, Talking Heads… the list goes on, all of them deserve a salute!”

Lasting just over 30mins, ‘Ghost Carnival’ isn’t exactly on the hefty side, nor is it an easy listen at times – which is surprising considering it’s length – but that’s probably all the more reason to check it out, it’s as varied as it’s clever and fun. Well worth half an hour of your time in our book.
