There aren’t many artists that have experienced, first hand, the early days of Detroit techno and acid house, lived through the rise and fall of early 90′s rave culture and can be credited as one of the very first acts to combine old-schhol rock and electro to create French electro, which then subsequently spawned a whole new generation of dance music fans. We are, of course, talking about Arnaud Rebotini aka Blackstrobe.

Blackstrobe are back. While last year it was all about Arnaud Rebotini, next year will see the return of the band Black Strobe – the only surviving member Arnaud Rebotini is currently in the process of writing the new album and has already conceded it’s likely to take a more cosmic journey than the acidic revival of last year’s concept album.
Blackstrobe’s seminal hit ‘Italian Fireflies’ has been turned over to a new generation of artists to remix. Out March 5 it includes a plethora of styles and genres from a wide range of remixers including Hey Today!, Munk, Yan Wagner, Reflex, Second Date and Richy Ahmed & Corey Baker.
Mathieu Zub aka Musuem is a self-taught guitarist and instrumentalist who has been in various rock bands before discovering analog synths and dance floors – he was then picked up by Black Strobe in 2007 and became their guitar player.
More previews have come online from Blackstrobe records for their next release, which is the debut EP of a young french chap Museum, who used to be Blackstrobe’s bassist.
The return of the fantastically flamboyant Arnuad Rebotini was a real highlight last year – he produced one of our favourite albums by Rafale – and his own album was a brain-melting brilliant return to pounding acid house Manchester is famed for.
The folks over at Clash Music got the amazing Arnaud Rebotini, of Blackstrobe fame, to do a DJ mix and it’s everything you would want and more from Arnaud. It’s quirky electro and techno that only a frenchman could produce.
