Soulwax are back with a new track and a slightly rejigged line-up. Joining David & Stephen Dewaele is a familiar face in Stefaan Van Leuven, who will be joined by new band member Laima Leyton, of Mixhell fame, who is on backing vocals and synths, and then when the group performs live there will be three drummers on stage.
Despite not releasing any new original material since 2005’s ‘Nite Versions’, the Dewaele brothers have been pretty busy. They’re constantly touring the world as 2 Many DJs, they’ve released countless remixes, and they’ve soundtracked a computer game (GTA5) and a film (Belgica), too.
So what’s next? Well, hopefully a new album, though nothing has been officially announced just yet. There’s going to be a European tour which will feature a new stage setup that’s described in the press release as “a micro version of their DEEWEE studio”.
The track they’ve unveiled, ‘Transient Program for Drums and Machinery’, is a little slower and lumbering compared to the Belgian’s more raucous output, but there’s a lot to like about the mechanical-sounding synths, and there’s a really enthralling ebb and flow between the track’s raw energy and wistful melancholia.
As a special treat you can download their comeback track for free via the band’s website.
