Trawling through music on a daily basis is one of the hardest things about my job, the further down the inbox rabbit hole you go the more despair you face; EDM tracks labelled as deep house; pop tracks labelled as electro – you can see where I’m going here; genres and artists perceptions of them can be maddening at times, so you just have to try and ignore them. If a track makes a personal connection then it’s worth a repeat listen, and if that feeling increases with each listen, then you know you’ve got a diamond in a sea of fugazis

Emika’s latest cut ‘Forever’ is certainly a diamond, a medley old-school electro and modern day techno rhythms it manages to find that sweet spot between electro, techno and, dare I say it, trance without it sounding trite or obvious, the constituents parts are so well stitched together that it immediatley reminded me of Vitalic’s brisk early work, though, with a woman’s touch.

‘Forever / Never’ are out now via Emika’s own imprint Emika Records.
