Will Saul’s AUS Music seems to be onto a good thing with Marquis Hawkes’ disco-laden EP, ‘Chances’.
All three tracks are straight fire, occupying the ground between bumpin’ filtered house and loop-laden disco, quite simply put – this is the probably the best thing we’ve heard in 2016.
‘Chances’ is your classic common or garden French house; chintzy, cheesy and just plain fun. Hawkes goes a touch deeper on the aptly titled, ‘A Very Deep Groove’ (no need for superlatives here then), and then he goes a lot deeper with ‘Free of Sin’, which is stripped-back to the point of being the black sheep of the three. Anyway, two out of three isn’t bad.
More of this please (no, seriously).
