Mobile crowdfunding app Tilt is looking to bring crowdfunding to the mobile masses in the UK after a successful launch in the US.
Currently, the app is the fastest growing crowdfunding app on both iOS and Android – outpacing both GoFundMe and Kickstarter.
The app is used by groups of friends to pool money together for a group goal – whether it’s fund-raising, booking a DJ or grouping together for a gift or holiday.
The app has found a lot of traction with college students in the US – but it’s also beginning to pick up fans from a host of brands and DJs including ESPN and Chainsmokers.
US DJs Chainsmokers cleverly used the app to crowdfund stops on their latest tour. The duo challenged six colleges to sell a minimum of 800 tickets to become a tour stop, with the first college selling out in just 20 minutes.
Legendary rapper Nas also used the app to crowdfund money for Stanley Young, an unemployed construction worker and single father whose house was destroyed by fire in 2013. Nas used his considerable influence and the app to donate $64,000 to the father of eight.
