Having topped the Hype Machine charts with her superb remix of Flight Facilities’ ‘Two Bodies’ (which we premiered), LA-based singer, DJ and producer Henri returns with a haunting new EP, ‘Dark Star’.

We say haunting, the opening title track isn’t all that scary – it’s more ethereal, combining wide-sounding progressive house with stirring orchestration and Henri’s breathless vocals. It basically sounds like Hybrid, which is never a bad thing in our book thanks to Dan Heath’s input.

‘Only Love Will Take Me There’ is the true standout track here though – menacing in nature, it sees Henri taking on a bigger role with a haunting deadpan vocal set against rippling basslines and tribal rhythms – it’s a proper club workout that conjures up comparisons to some of Miss Kitten’s and Louisahhh’s more caustic output.

The EP’s only remix comes from style icon, Heidi Lawden, and industry cracker jack, Hein Höven (Sade, Joe Strummer, Bush, Black Grape) who go by the name Heidi Höven. It’s something of a palette cleanser, simpler, less intense giving ‘Only Love Will Take Me There’ a lighter, warmer complexion.
