Smoking and club culture have been inextricably linked for decades, but in last couple of years that’s beginning to change – and it’s thanks to the rise of vaping.
To say vaping is taking over would be an understatement, if you walk into any pub or club in the UK you’re bound to see someone puffing away on an electronic cigarette, and in recent years it has become big business, and it’s not hard to see what why. First off all, there’s the health benefits; vaping is a lot less harmful than traditional cigarettes, they don’t smell at all (vapour is essentially scentless), and if you purchase the right one its a lot cheaper than traditional cigarettes in the long run, too.
With all that in mind, we were offered the chance to test V2’s PRO S7 vaporiser kit, which is a 3-in-1 vaporiser capable of vaping loose leaf, E-liquid and wax. The science behind vaping is relatively simple: in order to vaporise E-liquid into vapour, the unit warms the liquid to a certain point where it turns to vapour. And it’s the same for loose leaf, the vaporiser only needs to heat the substance to a certain temperature for you to get the effect, instead of full combustion that you might get with a cigarette for instance.
With the V2 Pro S7 you get the vaporiser, which looks a bit like a giant marker pen, two cartridges (loose leaf & E-liquid), some tools to maintain and clean the cartridges, and a clever magnetic charger. On the side of the unit you’ve got one button which chooses the temperature settings you want; the higher the setting the more vapour is produced. You simply fill cartridges with either E-liquid or loose leaf, press the vaporiser button three times to turn it on, and then the three lights flash on the side of the unit. Each light represents a different temperature (200°C/390°F, 210°C/415°F and 225°C/440°F). You simply press the button again to choose your temperature setting. For E-liquid the V2 is ready to use instantly once you’ve chosen your preferred temperature, and then you simply press the button when you want to take a drag. For loose leaf, though, you’ll have to wait 30 seconds for it to fully heat up, and once the green light on the bottom of the unit appears you can begin to take a drag, with each session lasting around 120 seconds before it automatically shuts down and you need to refill the cartridge.
It’s fairly straight forward after a few tries, and having tested it for a over a week it’s easily the best vaporiser I’ve come across so far. There’s no leaking of the liquid which seems to be bugbear of a lot of vaporisers, the battery seems to last forever – I think I’ve charged it once in a week – and it’s fairly easy to maintain and clean, meaning you don’t have to replace the cartridges all that often. There are some downsides though. It’s quite heavy and bulky, which might put some off who want to take it out with them. Elsewhere, filling it up isn’t a simple as a adding a new cartridge, you have to pour the E-liquid into the chamber – so doing that at a bar, club or restaurant might be a bit tiresome after a while. And it’s not cheap, the UK version is currently on sale for £140, and that doesn’t include any E-liquid, and once you’ve used it quite a bit you’ll have to replace the cartridges, which cost around £10.
Clearly, then, vaping and vaporisers are here to stay, and in 10 years time smoking cigarettes will most likely disappear altogether, which I think we can all agree is a good thing. So if you’re a smoker looking to quit – or just trying to reduce the harm you’re inflicting on yourself – you’d be a fool not to consider the V2 Pro Series 7 vaporiser. It’s cheaper in the long run than smoking, it’s a lot better for you (though some would disagree), and you won’t come back from the pub or club smelling like ashtray.
