A man has died and four others have been hospitalised at Cumbrian music festival Kendall Calling after reportedly taking drugs.

Police have said that one man was found at the festival in a critical condition and sadly later died in Hospital, whilst four others are being treated in hospital and are said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Police have arrested a 20-year-old male from Manchester for possession with intent to supply.

Festival organisers said in a tweet “There have been serious drug related casualties requiring hospital treatment. Please take extra care – illegal drugs have unknown contents.”

The North West Ambulance Service said five ambulances attended the scene at Penrith at about 06:42 BST. The patients were taken to the Cumberland Infirmary.

Cumbria Police said an investigation was under way into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

Around 25,000 people are expected through the gates of the Kendal Calling music festival this weekend to see the likes of Elbow, Snoop Dogg, Kaiser Chiefs and The Vaccines.

Our thoughts are with the deceased’s friends and family.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cumbria Police on 101 or alternatively you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
