Last week we wrote that Soundcloud’s new content ID partnership with Zefr could see the end of nefarious takedowns.

Well, it hasn’t. In fact, it’s even worse.

It would seem almost all users are facing multiple takedown notices for both mixes and individual tracks as the system is purged of great swathes of content.

We had hope the new system would act like Youtube content system where it diverts monetisation from users to the content owners. Unfortunately, no one is really monetising their content yet and rather than diverting said money the system is just removing music.

SoundCloud has always operated within a grey area when it comes to copyright, but now it seems the golden days of promo mixes and remixes are well and truly over.

What we’re witnessing is a service that was once controlled by artists being taken over by the major labels.

The end is nigh.
