After the runaway success of their new Traktor iOS app, Native Instruments has unveiled another ultra portable mixing solution, the Kontrol Z1.
The Kontrol Z1 features a built-in 24-bit soundcard, a two channel mixer, with 3-band EQ and dedicated filters for both channels. Where the Z1 begin to make sense is Traktor’s decision to make the Z1 compatible with their iPad and iPhone apps, meaning all the functions of the controller are automatically mapped to their Traktor app.
The Z1 also works as a plug-and-play controller for Traktor Pro that can be used in conjunction with the X1 and F1 controllers to form a more comprehensive setup, and ships with a copy of Traktor LE.
Traktor Kontrol Z1 connects to iPad, iPad mini, iPhone or iPod touch with an included 30-pin connector. Using the Z1 with iPad 4th generation, iPad mini, iPhone 5 or iPod touch 5th generation requires an Apple Lightning to 30-pin Adapter, which must be purchased separately from Apple.
At the time of writing a release date hasn’t been confirmed but the dinky controller is already up for pre-order for the not unreasonable price of £170.
