Black Strobe was formed way back in 1997, in Paris, by Arnaud Rebotini and DJ Ivan Smagghe. Smagghe left in 2006, as Black Strobe formed into a four-peice with members David “Siskid” Shaw (guitar), Bastien Burger (bass and keyboard) and Benjamin Beaulieu (drums) joining Rebotini on vocals and with Smagghe contributing lyrics. They released their debut album Burn Your Own Church in 2007.
While we wait for a new Black Strobe album that should see the rhythm and blues/electronic hybrid sound taken to the next level, and before release of a second volume of the “Music Components” project, a formidable techno odyssey whose homage to analogue synthesisers is slated for release in March 2011, Rebotini has had the good taste to turn over some of his favourite Black Strobe tracks such as “Me And Madonna” and “Italian Fireflies” to the younger generation, people like Jolie Chérie, Tape To Tape and The Twelves.
It will also be getting a new lease of life on Kitsune’s Maison 10 too, the EP with come with varying remixes from Joile Cherie, The Twelves, Tape To Tape, and Grand Crüe (Arnaud’s new project with DJ Pone from Birdy Nam Nam). We’ve been given permission to give away the Grand Crüe remix for free. And we’ve got a minimix of the whole package. And to top that a sweet DJ set from the Strobe too.
