To really appreciate Sayek’s latest album ‘Live From The Other Side’ you need to be familiar with Ibiza’s latest clubbing phenomenon The Zoo Project; it’s a disused Zoo that is the hidden away in the beautiful Ibizan countryside, its been around for 15 years in many guises, but now it seems to have found a new lease of life as the Zoo Project.

One of the reasons why it has been such a phenomenal hit is because of one man – Saytek aka Joseph Keevill, his live techno shows have brought the old Zoo back to life.

His latest offering ‘Live From The Other Side’ was recorded last summer live from the Seal Pit, it isn’t just some guy on a laptop checking his mail; Saytek rolls-up with a boot-load of equipment to make it a truly live performance, creating, re-editing and looping on the fly.

It’s a refreshing change to hear a mix which hasn’t been crafted, created or edited in the studio – yes there are some rough edges, but this all adds to feeling of not knowing where the mix is going for both Saytek and listener – one minute it’s dark and moody, the next, it’s tribal and latin infused.

It’s not a collection of individual songs, but a blend of multiple layers and effects that takes you on a journey of discovery – blending old techno rhythms with 21st century grooves.

Saytek has certainly matured over the last 18 months, he is now part of a new generation DJ’s like Joris Voorn in many ways – they see no barriers and use and exploit the latest technology to create mind-boggling effects and grooves, live and on the fly to devastating effect.
