The first time we heard Jacques’ ‘Dans La Radio’ we were hooked, then we saw his haircut, and to be quite honest we were in awe; then we saw his live performances online, and ever since we’ve wanted to find out more about this peculiar looking (and sounding) Frenchman.
Luckily, he’s playing in London next week (December 7) at Oslo, and ahead of his hotly anticipated performance he kindly agreed to hit the Introducing hot seat to answer some of our most burning questions.
Hello.
Hey.
Can you please Introduce yourself.
My name is Jacques.
Whereabouts are you today…?
In Milano for a gig, drinking with a mate in the backstage box.
And what’s the view like…?
Who inspired you into a life of music…?
At first my parents, then my friends and today it appears to be the most obvious way to live my time.
Do you ever regret it…?
No. I am not so much into the past conditional.
If you could change one thing about the music industry what would it be and why…?
I think I would include Spotify Premium accounts into taxes so everybody can listen to every music and that’s it.
Mac or Windows?
MAC.
Analogue or digital?
Electro-acoustic.
Tea or coffee?
Both.
Ableton or Logic?
Ahah Ableton since so far, and Logic since yesterday :)
Who is your favourite artist…?
Abraham Poincheval is a man that really make the difference. His performances are going really far into extreme uselessness serving personal increasement.
What was the first record you bought…?
I buy records so rarely that I always feel like it’s the first record I buy. The last first one was Plankton by Ryuichi Sakamoto. The real first one might be Eminem ‘encore’ for a Christmas present to my brother, long time ago.
What track do you wish you’d written…?
Imagine by John Lennon.
What track makes you happiest…?
Ahaha one track that really works for me, for no particular reason, is ‘Beautiful Now’ by Zedd.
What track makes you saddest…?
Led Zeppelin — Since I have been Loving You
Favourite venue/club..?
Soap Club in Seoul. I think my live set might be lost somewhere on the internet.
What’s your favourite after party record…?
After parties are really hell on earth to me, that’s why I never follow my friends there. I don’t do drug at all and like to have sex exclusively with people I love. This being said, I would recommend, for those who don’t feel like me about afters, to listen to this
What track has had the most influence on you…?
Some tracks I used to listen to when I was young really shaped the way I listen to music today. And it’s something I try to escape from. Daft Punk’s ‘Highlife’ or Justice’s ‘New Jack’ are examples.
Which of your own tracks are you most proud of…?
I’m not so proud of what I released so far. I am proud of the Chinese version of my song Dans La Radio because it was not that easy to speak and sing in Chinese, and when I played it in China, people where understanding and enjoying, I was proud :)
What’s your current favourite record…?
If your studio was on fire and you go back in to save one thing, what would it be and why…?
My guitar pedal rack :)
