Brodinski’s desire to unite the worlds of industrial techno and hip hop is an interesting one, his latest mixtape ‘Purple Rain’ looks to connect the dots and bring the two worlds together. So does it work or is Brodi simply chasing the gold at the end of a rainbow?
Well, it’s difficult to say, it certainly works within the spontaneity of a mixtape; especially as the producer has the necessary skills to mix everything from R Kelly to Maelstrom – but were yet to be convinced that the producer has found that missing link. Essentially Brodinski is trying to do what Justice did with rock and electro, but with hip hop and techno – but we’re just not sure he’s found that one breakout track, yet.
As well as the Purple Rain mixtape, Bromance Records are giving away two free tracks that feature in the mixtape, the first is remix of King Louie’s ‘Val Venis’ by Brodinski himself and is the clearest attempt at Brodi’s dream of multi-genre nirvana, the second is Maelstrom’s ‘Bricktown District’; a sledgehammer techno track that shows why Maelstrom is one to keep an eye on.
