The Chemical Brothers live show is a world beater; no electronic duo have managed to consistently amaze crowds around the world like them. The duo, obviously, need no introduction: they are one of, if not, the number 1 UK dance export. For diehard electronic music enthusiasts their love of dance music stems from this duo and this duo alone.
It’s time for them to try and bottle the magic within the live CD/DVD concept. The setting for this live show is an impressive one: Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. The live CD/DVD was recorded whilst they performed in front of 50,000 screaming fans as Adam Smith captures the fans reaction to the concert via 21 well-placed cameras.
You’re not going to see backstage shenanigans a la Justice, or the never-ending touring schedule of Soulwax’s ‘Part of the Weekend Never Dies’. This would detract from their performance, ‘Don’t Think’ is a purer piece of art – where their performance is centre stage.
Visually the show is spell binding; whether it’s cutlery being thrown into water, the infamous evil-looking clowns or 50ft robots dancing around the place. Every moment is an audio-visual delight where on-screen imagery bleeds seamlessly into the real world reactions.
Whether you’re a big Chems fans or not, it is going to be hard for anyone with a pulse not to be taken aback by the energy of their seminal tracks like ‘Block Rocking Beats’ and ‘Galvanise’. You’ll be glad to know that all of your favourite Chems bangers are in tow: ‘Do It Again’, ‘Leave Home,’ ‘Hey Boy Hey Girl’ and ‘Swoon’.
Ultimately, the whole package is greater than the sum of its parts. If you’re like us and want to relive their live performance without the downsides of a muddy field then you need to own Don’t Think.
Don’t think, just buy.
Out now.
