It’s 2013 and time for the first HBF mixtape of 2013. Already? Yes, we’ve got a fresh hour of electronic goodness featuring our favourite songs of the last 31 days. You can expect to hear new songs from Booka Shade, I:Cube, Ali Jamieson, Justice, Dubka, and Anthony Toga.
2012, where to start? Well, it’s certainly been an interesting year for brand EDM, with the excesses of DJs seemingly beginning to grate on the ever-more detached “hardcore” fans of electronic music. Musically, it has been a diverse year, with the continued fracturing of genre fault-lines; opening up once no-go areas to any producer that’s willing to give it go.
After last month’s unexpected homage to Daft Punk this month’s mixtape is back to the tried and tested formula of the best tracks of the last month – there are nuggets of joy from Lindtrom, Alex Metric, Boys Nozie, Fake Blood, Punks Jump Up and Maxxi Soundsystem.
This month’s mixtape is ready and waiting for you. It actually started out as normal monthly re-cap – but somehow it turned into a Daft Punk mega mix – not sure why, but I’m sure you’ll all agree that’s never a bad thing.
Unsurprisingly September has been chock-a-block full of amazing music and this month’s mixtape showcases the very best new music that has been featured on the blog over the last 31 days. You can expect hear new music from Jupiter, Siriusmo, Busy P, Blende, Villa and Mumbai Science to name a few.
This month’s mixtape features what we think have been the biggest tracks of the last 30 days, with, of course, a couple of curve balls and the odd classic thrown in for good measure.
This month we were harassed (their words) to make a mixtape for the music discovery website Shuffler.FM – if you haven’t heard of them, then you should check them out now.
As you may well know there’s a remix competition for Monsieur Adi’s emotionally charged new single ‘Requiem’ – we decided to fire up Ableton and have go ourselves – let us know what you think and have a go yourself by downloading the parts from the link below.
We’ve started to take the ‘ol mixtape game a little more seriously over the last few months, and today’s effort is our most ambitious to date.
We made another mix last week, it went well, well that’s what we thought, so were going to share it with you – listen out for tracks from Mixhell, Show Your Shoe, Moonlight Matters and plenty more. All criticism welcome, well as long as it’s good.
Just a quick post to say Happy New Year, and to give you lot a lovely mix from new Belgium producer Mickey, who just so happens to be managed by the same guy who looks after fellow Belgium disco cohorts Aeroplane and Villa – so the signs are looking very good.
