dzill is a New York-based DJ and producer who has just released a track called ‘Hot Alright’. What makes ‘Hot Alright’ stand out from the crowd is dzill’s steadfast approach to avoiding house music’s biggest tropes.

There are no doughy chords, no snare rolls — none of that trope-y nonsense. Instead, you’ve got a propulsive cut of lo-fi-sounding house that’s a real patchwork of different influences that probably shouldn’t go together.

It might not click immediately but when it does (and it will) you’re left with a cut of house that packing some serious character and personality, something that’s been sorely missing from a lot house for a while now.

Well played, dzill, you’ve managed to make something genuinely interesting — and in 2017 that’s hard.
