Alex Gopher – real-name Alex Latrobe – has always been regarded as one of the most important players in the early French House scene.
But for whatever reason he’s shied away from a lot of the lime light; instead acting as a producer and, more often than not, mastering other people’s records. In fact, according to Discogs he has 444 credits to his name.
He has, though, released three excellent albums, the last one came in 2006 (so he is due a new one, ahem). But since then he’s remained somewhat in the background doing the odd EP and remix, which is a real shame as everything he’s pretty much released has been solid gold.
His latest, dubbed ‘Back To Basics’, is just the sort of disco-house that comes so naturally to him – and just from the 30 second clips of each of the tracks we’re already very excited.
It’s really gratifying to see one of the god fathers of French House still delivering some 20 years after he initially made his mark.
And if you’ve got the time we implore you to listen to his 2013 EP, ‘Hello Inc’.
