In an age where everyone, ourselves included, is obsessed with new artists and new music, it was a peculiar sounding techno sleeper hit from Fatima Yamaha, ‘What’s A Girl To Do’, that managed to thrust itself into the collective consciousness of the dance world in 2015, where it became one of the biggest tracks of the year some 11 years after its original release.
Yamaha is the alias of Bas Bron a Dutch producer who made the track way in 2004, when it was released on Irish label D1 Recordings. It made its mark in 2015, thanks in part to a steady trickle of people on Youtube declaring there love for it (naturally), and them then telling the world where and when they heard it. It then gained even more momentum thanks to Jackmaster, who used it in his Tweakaholics mix in 2008, and then later when Hudson Mohawke played in his Essential Mix, and only then had, ‘What’s A Girl To Do’, finally begun to make its mark.
Striking while the iron is hot, Yamaha is about to release his new album, and while ‘What’s A Girl To Do’ is curiously missing from the tracklist (well it is 11 years-old), his debut full-length does offer a stunning blend of disco, funk and house set against intricate vocals across 10 tracks.
Listen to ‘Love Invaders’, which is taken from the album above and lookout for the album’s release on November 27 via Magnetron Music.
