Alex Metric has lifted the lid on the next edition of his hugely successful ‘Ammunition’ series.
The fourth edition sees Metric join forces with a raft of interesting collaborators including The Knocks, AMTRAC and The New Sins, which is Lou Hayter of New Young Pony Club fame.
The first track to be unveiled, ‘Drum Machine’, featuring The New Sins is a hyper percussive house track where Metric challenged himself to only use just a TR8 drum machine, and no synths – something that’s sure to raise a few eyebrows considering his famed use of a variety of hardware synths.
“‘Drum Machine was an experiment in limitations,” explains the London-based artist to Noisey. “I wanted to make a track using only 1 drum machine (a TR8 for those that are interested), no synths, nothing musical, and see what that would force me to do.
And that’s where Lou Hatyer’s contribution come into sharp focus, she provides the track’s flushes of melody as Metric dissects her vocals with a host dizzying effects. Essentially, the Londoner has done the impossible – creating a rich tapestry out of a single drum machine and a killer vocal.
