Norwegian disco man Todd Terje returns with a brand-new single ‘Strandbar’ which is out today via his own label Olsen. The single come with three versions of the same track ‘Samnba’, ‘Disko’ and a ‘bonus’ version.
As you can imagine the samba version includes plenty of jangling percussion, it’s actually a bit annoying a first but once it hits its stride it all begins to make sense as Terje blends gluey basslines with doughy keys for a hypnotic workout.
The disko version, as you imagine, is a disco interpretation, so gone are the over-bearing off-kilter percussion for something a little more formulaic, with a greater emphasis on the cosmic. This is almost certainly the version you’ll hear in a club.
The bonus version ignores the original’s chirpy chords for a version that soley concentrates on Terje’s percussion. The less said about it the better.
Out now via Olsen.
