The Japanese Popstars are gearing up to the release of their forthcoming album ‘Controlling Your Allegiance’ with a new single ‘Joshua’ Featuring Tom Smith from Editors fame.

The album features a host of further collaborations, including The Cure’s Robert Smith, Jon Spencer (of Blues Explosion fame), Chicago House Legend Green Velvet and psych folk singer James Vincent McMorrow. Together with four nominations for the 2011 Irish Dance Music Awards, The Japanese Popstars are well on course to be one of the rising acts of the Summer.

Over the last couple of year’s the Japanese Popstars have carved themselves quite a reputation as a must see live act, we’ve seen them at the Warehouse project and they stole the show.

They have been known for their more heavy pounding electro music, but now they are showing a more mature serene side of their brand of electronic music.

The new single still keeps that foot-stomping, speaker smashing DNA that they are loved for but with a mature vocalist bringing the band into the realm of indie electro cross-over much like the new Yuksek material we’ve featured over the last few days.

In a groundbreaking move they’ve created a new Facebook app, Joshua the baboon (as seen on the ‘Controlling Your Allegiance’ cover above) it comes alive creating a new online experience for fans and their friends, and enabling fans to appear in their own personal version of the music video for ‘Joshua’ (single out 22 May / impact date 20 June). A first of its kind for the industry, with the end result allowing each user to hold their own unique version of the online video.

Fans will be able to interact with this baboon by feeding him their Facebook friends, in turn letting their friend’s know they’ve been eaten. On top of that, in this groundbreaking new app, the users’ image, along with the images of the friends they have fed to the baboon, will appear in the actual Music Video – in a sense making this the first really personal Official Music Video.

Check out the new single below and we’ll have more from the Japanese Popstars in the coming weeks.
