Madeira is the pseudonym of Kim Pflaum, the multi-skilled singer/songwriter from New Zealand who co-founded the dream-pop outfit Yumi Zouma.
Leaving the group and going solo allowed her to build on the sensibilities of her previous band, which resulted in her addictive first single Let Me Down late last year.
Manipulator builds on the solid work of her first effort, with her signature, mellow synth-pop shining brightly once again. Ethereal, considered vocals are layered gently over the chilled-out production, which contains sparkling synths and balearic guitar licks. The atmospheric vibe will surely leave the listener in a peaceful state of mind – another fantastic effort from Madeira.
Manipulator will feature on Madeira’s first EP, Bad Humors – which will be released on September 23, 2016 via Carpark Records.
Words by David Pallozzi.
