We’ve been raving about the new collaboration between Rex The Dog and Kris Menace, well we say “new” apparently the music was made last year.

But nevertheless ‘Pow’ is a stunning piece of electronic music which looks back rather than forward, it draws both the skills from the master of electro Kris Menace and the master of old-skool synths Rex The Dog.

This is very good, probably, even better when bathed in neons and surrounded by a unmistakable punch of a Funktion One at your favourite clubbing institution.

In a world where collaborations like Snoop Dogg and Boys Noize are apparently a good idea – it’s actually nice to see some collaborations that do work – and Rex The Dog’s new collaboration with his new BFF Kris Menace is something that actually works. And works really well.

They’re are about to release their collaboration called ‘Pow’ on October 24 – and see’s the ze German and Brit come up trumps with three club cuts of 80′s hands-in-the-air electro.

The original is a intoxicating mish-mash of off-key drums and menacing analog synths (no pun intended) – served on a bed of complex effects.

Rex’s remix come with a set of snappy tight drums, 8-bit beeps and bleeps – all finished with a veneer of Casio simplicity.

And Kris’ remix goes for the hands-in-the-air synth driven 2007 electro vibe – it’s really good.

Kris will also have a second single coming in mid Nov and will follow that up with an album sometime in 2012.

Rex The Dog is starting his own club night called, you guessed it, ‘Breed’ which starts on June 24 at London’s Dalston Superstore. Apparently it’s not a supermarket, although it sure does sound like one.

To promote the whole thing Rex has commissioned a series of Podcast from guests who will appear at the first BREED.

You can hear mixes from electronic pulse wave disco peeps RUFUS&Bambi and analogue synth purists Pleasure Cruiser. We predict that the final podcast will be coming from Rex The Dog himself.

To celebrate the release of Mason’s new single Ft. Aqualung ‘Little Angel’ – the powers that be have given us permission to give away the amazing remix from Rex The Dog for free in full 320 quality.

Mason have provided the perfect ammunition for a White Isle vibe with this Italo-disco tinged collaboration featuring singer/songwriter Matt Hales AKA ‘Aqualung’.

Aqualung’s ‘Strange and Beautiful’ was a huge top 10 hit in the UK back in 2002 and this huge talent, now based in L.A. continues to write gorgeous and intimate songs.

Mason retains the intimacy and simplicity of Aqualung’s languid vocals with a nicely rocking salute to Georgio Moroder in their original version taken from their current album ‘They Are Among Us’.

We went to see Rex The Dog at Manchester’s best kept secret Clique and it reminded why we were obsessed with Rex a few years ago, he’s the only DJ we know that can play New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’ and the Ghost Busters theme song in a set and get away with it.

Well it would seem that he’s properly back. He’s did an amazing remix of the new Aeroplane single ‘My Enemy’, his first foray into mixtape game with a Scandinavian mix last week and now we have his remix for Mason and their new track ‘Little Angel’

It’s a analogue synth italo homage, except for the digital guitar sample – it’s a more stripped backed sound from Rex, but it harks back to the good ‘ol days of Rex’s work of a couple of vintage synths and some big old drums.

WOW. Two Rex The Dog posts in one day we must be in doggy heaven, so here it is Rex The Dog is getting on the Mixtape game and we for one can’t be anymore excited, Rex The Dog is more like Rex The God to us.

Here’s what Rex and his dog had to say about their first mix, “This is our first mixtape and it is designed for a certain mood and (maybe) for headphones. Most of this music is from Sweden, or has been remixed by someone from Sweden. The last track is remixed by Royksopp so it is a little bit Norwegian too. It’s a Scandinavian mixtape…Anyway, the songs are all 100% awesome but we messed around with them to make them 101% awesome.

Aeroplane is releasing the next single from his album ‘We Can’t Fly’ and it see’s the release of the most dance orientated track and our personal favourite ‘My Enemy’ lead the line with remixes from HBF favourites Rex The Dog and man of cool and christianity Green Velvet.

First up we have the original, a 4-on-the-floor disco track that takes violins and some sultry strings up to 35,000 feet and never looks like it will ever land. The finest track from the album and were so glad it getting the single treatment.

Well, Rex The Dog has been very quiet for quite sometime, but he’s back and back with his loveable sidekick Rex and he’s brought along some his vintage analog synths – it’s classic Rex from start to finish.

Strong bass and beats take the original firmly into the club. It’s effect laden re-rub that is sure to pay havoc the world over. Throw in some lovely analog drums, and he cuts up the main synth line to make one of his finest remixes he done to date. Well done Rex.

We have it on good authority that Rex is getting into the mixtape game, and will be dropping his first soon, more details to come.

And to finish we have Green Velvet – he takes the original down the brooding tech/house route, and to be honest we really like, definitely the sort of track you’d expect to here at a dirty underground house rave.

We have to say this is the strongest release from Vito’s album and is a sure fire 10 out 10 anyway you look at it, something for everyone.

Our favourite four-legged friend is back on remixing duties and has produced another fantastic remix, this time of Royksopp’s ‘This must be it’.

Featuring another great vocal from Swedish singing sensation Fever Ray – it’s well worth a listen.

Rex The Dog is a project by Jake Williams formerly of JX. He has been a rising star ever since he took at monthly residency at London’s newest club Matter.

Delphic have reached yet another milestone by having their Mini Mix on Annie Mac’s show last week.

The eclectic mini mix is now keeping some very impressive company from Grand Master flash to Rex the dog.

After recently posting the Rex the dog remix of Fever Ray’s ”Triangle Walks’ we have now got the Tiga remix.

Karin Andersson is the lead singer for Swedish band the Knife, but she is now pursueing a solo career - the remix is a quite agressive take on the song with Tiga not holding back.

Karin Elisabeth Dreijer Andersson is the lead vocalist for The Knife with her blrother olof Dreijer. Andersson released her debut album under the name Fever Ray in 2009.

Her vocal style is very distinct with both shrill and distorted deep tones, combined with her distinctinve accent and the use of pitch-shifting makes for quite singer.

Imagine someone, after having started his time machine, flies over the mountains and valleys of music history with bright sunlight and his dog snatching at everything that looks somehow interesting.

Rex the dog has had meteoric rise since the E.P Frequency arrived in 2004, some have suggested that his production sounds like a drunk daft punk – this may a little unfair but, without a doubt he is a man, a dog or machine, who is very much stuck in a 80’s time machine with his lovable dog Rex.

It is rumoured that Rex is an alias of Jake Williams who had a slew of top ten hits in Europe in the early ’90s. Others claim Rex is a German electro/techno producer. Others claim he is a super intelligent mutant dog.

Regardless of his exact identity, Rex the Dog is a reference to the Rex the Wonder Dog cartoon series that was created by DC Comics in the ’50s.

His recent back catalogue includes remixes for The Knife, Depeche Mode, Mylo, The Prodigy and Soulwax making wacky analogue stomping electro!

Rex has just released his first studio album ‘The Rex The Dog Show’ which has been released on his newly formed label Hundehaus.

This album has a lot of Rex’s earlier productions that were released on German techno label Kompakt; but it has been spiced up with a few new songs notably ‘Bubblicious’ and ‘I Can See You, Can You See Me?’

The album draws from many influences from the last 20 years ranging from Boy George, Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode.

This album is very much a throwback the late 80’s and early 90’s with Rex’s ability to create music that doesn’t take its self too seriously,

Rex has been a firm advocate of ‘Old School’ Synthesizers which has feature predominantly in a lot of his productions.

Rex said: “the Korg 700S, is our favourite synthesizer. It was built in 1974 (so was I…) and it is totally awesome. Every sound on the first Rex single and most of the sounds on the second single were made only with this keyboard.”

He tracked this synthesizer down with crazy determination because he heard it was used on Depeche Mode’s first album and also to make all the sounds on ‘Warm Leatherette’ by The Normal.
