Daft Punk have spoken for the first time about their highly anticipated Tron Legacy soundtrack, talking to Dazed & Confused they spoke candidly about the pressure of the experience, the necessity to expand their sound to use a full orchestra, and how they’re trying educated people on the virtues of classical music.

“This project is by far the most challenging and complex thing we have ever been involved with,” declares Thomas on their Tron: Legacy soundtrack. “Coming from our background of making electronic music in a small bedroom, and ending up having our music performed by a 90-piece orchestra, with some of the best musicians in the world…We are lucky to have had the opportunity to experience some powerful moments artistically over the years, but recording this orchestra was a very intense experience.”

After Daft Punk were reassured by Disney that they weren’t just going to make a copy of the first Tron – it appears that Daft Punk took some time to consider the magnitude of the project.

“As soon as we saw the filmmaker was not trying to copy the first [Tronmovie],” says Thomas, “But expand it after almost 30 years, we thought it was interesting. Then we questioned ourselves as to whether or not it was something we could actually do.”

“The most pressure we feel is always from ourselves, even in a project like this. I think that is why we took so much time before we jumped on board, so we could guarantee our freedom and room for experimentation in this environment – it’s a dream factory. Hollywood is at the corner of imagination and industry.”

Daft Punk then went into detail about the decision to move away from their traditional sound, as they immediately realised that they wouldn’t be able to do the project from a small bedroom, with two synthesers and a 808 drum machine.

“We knew from the start that there was no way we were going to do this film score with two synthesizers and a drum machine,” he adds, having cited Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann, John Carpenter, Vangelis and Maurice Jarre as inspirations.

Thomas stresses the timelessness of orchestral instruments relative to electronic tools. “A cello was there 400 years ago and will still be here in 400 years. But synthesizers that were invented 20 years ago will probably be gone in the next 20. Synths are a very low level of artificial intelligence. Whereas you have a Stradivarius that will live for a thousand years. In the past, we have worked with clashing genres like disco and heavy metal, and here we would do it with film scores…this idea of the ultimate retro-futurism.”

Disney has just released the first footage of Daft Punk’s cameo in Tron Legacy, alongside the not-so-secret track “Derezzed”.

Disney have just popped over the first picture of Daft Punk’s suits for their cameo appearance in Disney’s Tron Legacy – and we can’t help but think they’ve got it spot-on, now roll on the soundtrack, the film and hopefully the live tour.

“They wanted to maintain their image, as they should, but they were also really excited about doing a Tron version of their look,” Tron Legacy’s costume designer Christine Bieselin Clarktold InTheMix of the duo’s attitude to what they should be wearing in their cameo appearance in the film.

“We did do leathers, we did do things that were very Daft Punk, but then we put the whole Tron stamp on it and they couldn’t have been happier about how it turned out. We just did a photo-shoot with them and it’s so funny, they seem really excited to just be in the suits. They loved it.”

Just when we thought that we would be hearing the Tron Soundtrack way before the film opens at the cinema, Disney have pulled the rug from under us and pushed back the release from 22nd November to December 7th.

By way of an apology Disney has unveiled half of the poster that you will get if you pre-order the deluxe edition. Looks pretty sweet already, likely to look even better when we see the final version.

So, after the news that there was a secret track nestled in the Tron Soundtrack website, Greek producer NTEIBINT (we can’t pronounce it,) sent over a email informing us that the track was a unmastered WAV and he had taken the 19 seconds and made a full track. Sweet.

We all know by now that Daft Punk are doing the Tron soundtrack, right ? Well, the management company for the secretive duo have confirmed that they robots will be touring theie new material from the Tron OST.

The Daily Swarm spoke with the managing partner, and head of music for CAA (the firm the represents the duo), who said that he expects “the film soundtrack and tour will lead a dance music juggernaut worldwide.” He added, “This is going to be the biggest tour of next year.”

Additionally, sources have speculated that the band will also be doing surprise live sets and film screenings leading up to the film’s premiere and are potentially playing the film’s Hollywood premiere.

If you haven’t seen Daft Punk, you have missed out, their Alive 2007 performance has yet to be topped by any artist and their Tron one promises to be bigger and better.

“Yesterday, a french citizen uploaded a compilation of new “11″ songs from the BSO Tron Legacy added to the 6 songs published by “the end radio”.
Its extremly amazing these tracks wich are classified in scenes.

This is not the score, this is the BSO, more commercial, more their style, it is like homework and discovery together.

Could this be snippets of the second CD – it has been reported that they have done 24 tracks – maybe a score CD and a proper dance CD version. Let’s hope so, and whoever sent the comment, get it contact and let us know where you came by this.

In a week where Daft Punk have courted a load press – they gone and sent the interweb into overdrive, six tracks of Daft Punk’s uber-anticpated Tron Legacy soundtrack have just appeared on a American Radio Station The End, now we have heard snippets already, but these seem to be the real deal, the first proper taste of the soundtrack, the first couple have music from the two trailers and the rest no body knows. You Decide.

They range from 30 seconds to a couple of minutes – for me they are real. But not full tracks.

That’s right ! The release date for Daft Punks Tron Legacy soundtrack has been announced as November 23rd, according to reports from Inthemox.au and is a full month before the film lands.

It will the latest CD from the French robots since their grammy award-winning Alive 2007 CD, there are rumours circulating the interweb that it will previewed at the Comic-con in a couple of weeks – with the possibilty of a live performance. Though is unlikely. We’ll know more soon.
