The return of the fantastically flamboyant Arnuad Rebotini was a real highlight last year – he produced one of our favourite albums Rafale’s ‘Obsessions‘  - and his own album was a brain-melting brilliant return to pounding acid house Manchester is famed for.

Alex Metric has built himself quite the reputation as the go-to-guy for stunning remixes lately – so it wouldn’t be a bad thing if he compiled his finest work into one handy mixed CD – this is ‘Open Your Eyes’.

The remix roster reads like the phone book of Jay Z – it’s a testament to his selection process and where so far he hasn’t done a bad remix. The only thing we can compare it to is Yuksek’s remix mixtape which he did last year – ‘Open Your Eyes’ is of that level. It’s crammed full of the worlds top music acts – you’ll find everything from N.E.R.D, Phoenix, Fenech Soler, Depeche Mode and Bloc Party to The Beastie Boys, La Roux and The Gorillaz.

In total you get 14 tracks, made up of 11 remixes and two collaborations – the CD opens with his French electro remix of The Phoenix’s ‘Litszomania’ and Metric’s electro disco rendition more than lives up to the billing. Muddy bass lines, sassy vocals and pop sensibilities combine to make it one of the stand out tracks. It then mixes into the Gorrilaz’s ‘Stylo’ – this is the best Gorillaz remix you will find anywhere – it clatters along with slapping claps, driving disco synths, sharp vocals and thudding kicks.

In many ways Alex Metric’s remix style treads the similar ground to French electro wizz-kid Yuksek – who is also famed for amazing remixes. There’s just something about the way he combines the energy of electro with a thick smattering of organic disco goodness and a wide palette of pop influences. The French electro theme continues through to his remix of N.E.R.D’s ‘Hypnotize You’ with nervy synths at the beginning combining with the main synth hook for track that builds and builds. The pay-off comes in the form of the mix into Fenech Soler’s ‘Lies’.

The CD continues the chaotic pace with the skittish synths of Ellie Goulding’s high octane ‘Salt Skin’ the euphoria of La Roux’s ‘Quicksand’ and the thrash-rock of The Beastie Boy’s seminal hit ‘Sabotage’ – by the final few songs you’ve been treated to mix that has slapped, kicked and pulled you through the best of the last 20’s years of popular culture – all through the minds-eye of an electro artist at the top of his game.

By the end of it you’re left totally convinced by the pedigree of Alex Metric – we’d say he’s probably the most exciting electro artist in the UK at the moment – he’s now set the bar extremely high for his debut album but if his remixes album is anything to by it’s going to be one wide ride.

StarSmith is Fin Dow-Smith the latest DJ and producer to be asked to do a mix for Alan Braxe’s Vulture Music mixtape collection.

Over the last couple years artists from all over the world have been queuing up to get the StarSmith treatment as he has racked up numerous remixes for the top tier of pop music whilst still remaining an exciting prospect for dance music.

The 22-year-old producer has already worked on four number 1 albums including Kylie Minogue’s and Ellie Gouldings’ album where he co-wrote 7 of the tracks and produced pretty all of the album.

Royal Sapien is New York graphic designer, DJ and producer. He got in contact to tell us the he had been making a mix for the last 5 months that had 300 tracks and was only a hour long – to put it in perspective our last mix was 17 tracks in 1 hour. This is somehow 300.

We immediately thought anyone who has spent this amount of time is truly devoted and is worth a listen – what we weren’t expecting was a mix full of hundreds of layers of tracks stack up seamlessly to deliver a mesmerizing, all-encompassing hour-long composition that spans ambient to drum’n’bass. Delving deep into record crates and cd wallets for 300 choice nuggest of electronic goodness.

The mix has already been played in full on John ‘Digger’ Digweed’s radio show and is definetley worth a download if your looking for textured meander down memory lane.

He has created a mix that crams 300 tracks into a 60 minutes mix that will take you on a ride of emotions and textures of electronic music; from the balmy chords of Trentemoller, the exhilarating synths of Hybrid and slow groans of Thom Yorke.

Similar in a way to 2 Many DJ’s intro mix, from a few years back, it has been perfectly arranged with key mixes all over the show – it’s a complex tapestry but it’s so engaging and cleverly thought out.

Alongside the mix he has also created a 15 minute animation to go with the intro and is well worth a watch.

Mondkopf seems to have appeared from nowhere. The 24-year-old producer of dark and twisted french techno has already got Busy P declaring his new album as one the best he has heard in 2011 – so it only seems fitting that the dudes over a Oki-ni got him to do a mix.

Mondkopf is an artist with a dark side. This mix, made during an all-nighter in his Paris apartment, is a shadowy and menacing mix that seeks to capture “the tension before a catastrophe”. Not for the faint-hearted but with plenty to get your teeth into, BENEATHTHEDARKNESS features Portishead, Lairs, Suicide and Burzum.

You might not expect such darkness from a celebrated 24-year-old musician from Toulousse who has remixed The Golden Filter, The Teenagers and Caribou. But this mix and the title of his forthcoming EP, “Day Of Anger”, set for release this month more than hints at a macabre mind-set.

We asked him which tracks in the mix particularly stood out for him:

“The opening song by Khanate is one of the blackest things I’ve ever heard. I like the way the title of Portishead’s Machine Gun fit the song well; the sound of it blows me off with each snare hit and lifts me up when the synth arrives. And I love Turzi’s song for its originality and boldness.”

The folks over at Clash Music got the amazing Arnaud Rebotini, of Blackstrobe fame, to do a DJ mix and it’s everything you would want and more from Arnaud.  It’s quirky electro and techno that only a frenchman could produce.

This week from Oki-ni mix series we have Bjujeria by Jahcoozi. Compiled and mixed by Robot Koch, Jahcoozi’s Berlin beat-maker, BRUJERIA is a mix of Jahcooz’s influences blended with a few of Robot Koch’s childhood favourites. As a result, James Blake, Jamie XX and Mount Kimbie meet John Coltrane, possibly for the first time ever.

This mix is also bound to a very specific place. The place is Mexico. As for the reason, we think it’s best to let Robot Koch explain for himself:

“I produced a lot of stuff for my upcoming album in Mexico, and while I was on tour in the States. I like working far away from home; I get the best ideas when I get out of my box.

“I also made this mixtape while I was Mexico. I called the mix BRUJERIA, which means witchcraft in Spanish and is also the name of a song I made with my girlfriend, Graciela Maira.

“This song is featured in this mixtape. You will find John Coltrane here as well, who was a huge inspiration for me back in the day. There are also some current faves like James Blake, Jamie XX and Sampha, as well as some of my latest productions, like my collab’ with John Robinson. And there is also a nice Ramadanman remix of a Jahcoozi track in there, which will drop on BPitch soon.”
