Veteran acidhead Abe Duque has been at forefront of the Acid house movement since his early releases way back in 1993.

Roll on 17 years and he still doing what he does best, his latest CD compilation, which is out this week, called Live And On Acid, is a 2 CD affair and includes three entirely new tracks.  Some of his original work as well as some tasty remixes that have been given a naughties lick of paint.

Acid house was a major part of the rave revolution that hit the UK clubbing scene in the late 80’s and early 90’s and it’s nice to hear some fresh sounding acid cuts.

It’s wonky, warm and cleverly put together – part wild acid, part dark house. Brutally funky basslines and acid influences are all over this release.

You can expect to hear Fingers, Inc Distant Planet, BamBam ‘Give it to me’, Underground Solution ‘Luv Dancin’ Reese ‘The Sound’, Logic ‘The Warning’

This is the first even career retrospective, covering both the live sets he plays now and going all the way back to the house and techno he used to play in the early days of his deejaying.

CD1 is all about Abe right now – the first-ever recording of his awe-inspiring live show that’s gone down a storm everywhere from Berghain to Fabric to Japan to Australia.

CD2 is 16 acid and house classics drawn from Abe’s first days deejaying at New York club Limelight.  It’s an Acid and techno heritage that Abe has drawn on through 18 years of being at the forefront of the Acid movement.

If your looking for a CD that captures those Acid flavours of the last 20 years you can’t go wrong with ‘Live And On Acid” it does exactly as it says on the tin. Now all I need to do is find my whistle and white gloves, close my eyes and I’m in the Hacienda.

SMD are about to return with a new compilation made especially for their new residency at Fixed in New York.

FIXED launched many moons ago in 2004 by DJ’s JDH and Dave P at the Tribeca Grand hotel – it has been massive hit for the city’s somewhat starved club scene.

SMD aren’t the first UK act to take a proper a residency in New York,  Welsh boy Sasha reinvigorated their scene a few years ago when he first started his ableton mixing.

Jas Staw from SMD told us: “The mix we have done for Fixed is based on how we hope our residency with them in New York will pan out.

“Fixed has always been a forum for the deeper and odder end of disco and techno, but without forgetting that it’s still a party.

“We mixed this live in our studio, allowing us to throw some extra effects in there and also a bit of the 808 fromtime to time.”

We have a rather splendid free track to giveaway from the odd-ball duo, called Nerve Salad.

It’s a piece of schizophrenic techno – and sounds like it was conceived in the mind of a person who is very weird – think Sven Vath mixed with stabs of A Clockwork Orange. Very strange indeed. Classic SMD then.

Those forward-thinking Frenchy’s are at it again with a free track giveaway with a clever twist; French pop group The Teenagers are giving away their first track since 2008 – but to get this morsel of music you will exchange a tweet to get the track- it’s being dubbed as a new “Social Payment System.”

Let’s hope it works for them as it’s a novel way to market their music. Well, it is all explained in the video below – were not going to spoil the fun – so go get it.

Zero 7 have annouced today they will be releasing a best of album this month and after 10-years of making some of the finest downtempo music to grace our ears it’s probably worth picking up.

Called Record, it is out on June 28^th, and traces back their roots as in-demand remixers to a fully-fledged band, a transformation which saw them sell over a million copies of their stunning debut Simple Things.

The first disc pulls together their singles, while the second disc features remixes for their tracks by a stunning selection of talents like Carl Craig, Metronomy, Photek, Joker and Madlib.

We recently featured the fantastic Fouck Brothers and we were so impressed we needed to find out more. So we decided to pitch them 20 quick-fire questions to see what they are made of. Why are you called the Fouck Brothers? It comes from our family name.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently? Not the biggest gig but the best was @ L’international in Paris.

What was the first record you ever bought? Andy, it was “Homework” from Daft Punk, Gil, it was “Chocolate starfish…” from LB, and Julien, it was “Raoul and the kings of Spain” from Tears For Fears.

What’s the best Club in Belgium? The“Libertine Supersport” club in Brussels is becoming one of the best in Belgium, in Europe maybe. It is the place to be, for sure!

If you could save one piece of equipment from your studio what would it be? Andy, I would save my Juno 106, Gil, I would prefer to die with my equipment, and Julien, I would save my favourite guitar.

Favourite album of the naughties? “ Bring it on” from Goose.

Are you brothers? Yes we are the Fouck Brothers.

Favourite Film? The Goonies.

Best piece of advice you have been given? Never back down.

The Fouck Brothers are a name you are sure to come across more and more if their latest EP is anything to go by, they’re a new trio from Belgium and they sound like a young and fresh Soulwax – they’re giving away 4 amazing tracks for you to sample for free.

We’re excited at HBF to present you with Pororoca – the debut CD release from critically-acclaimed music technologist, violinist, composer, sound designer and educator Laura Escudé. Based in Los Angeles, Escudé is perhaps the most technically skilled and gifted electronic music artist we’ve seen in a long time – period. Bold statement, yes, but there’s a lot to back it up.

She was L.A.’s first Certified Ableton Trainer, (as well as one of the first in the world) and now personally conducts the West Coast certification events for Ableton. Her innovative approach to music, technology and community has propelled her to do consulting and music work for numerous high-level artists and companies.

Pororoca is crafted with a combination of Ableton Live, foot and hand controllers, Logic, Native Instruments plug ins, field recordings and instruments including Violin (4 string, 5 string and electric) and Cello.

The album is largely electronic in nature but it’s also full of real emotion. Of course, much of this has to do with the fact that this is just not an album of tracks, but rather, a collection where each piece tells a different story.

The title – Pororoca – has double meaning. First, quite literally in connecting with the record it means “tumultuous noise.” Second, Pororoca is the name of the longest “rideable” tidal wave on earth (someone once rode the wave for 38 minutes). The video to the title track was created by multi-media visual artist Scott Pagano; known for collaborating with a wide range of musicians including Speedy J, James Zabiela, Richard Devine, Christopher Willits, Trifonic, Eskmo/Welder, BT, and Michael Jackson. Pagano directed and executed the conception, design, animation, and finishing of the “Pororoca” video for Laura Escudé.

London-based production duo, Mount Kimbie, are a pair that are trying to elude classification; sometimes they’re experimental, sometimes their not, but they are creating their own sound which leans them to the more experimental dubstep and hip-hop, but it oozes emotion and ambient soundscapes.

We have a free track for you, called ‘Sergred’, which remixed by faultyDL. It’s taken from their hotly anticipated EP which will be in two parts on 19 April. Mount Kimbie are currently recording their debut LP due for release this summer on Hotflush.

Hotflush presents two EPs of remixes of Mount Kimbie. On the first, Dom and Kai’s debut ‘Maybes’ gets a soulful treatment from their sometime collaborator James Blake, as heard on Scuba’s recent SUB:STANCE mix on Ostgut Ton.

‘Serged’ is reshaped into woozy garage by New Yorker FaltyDL. On the flip, DJ Mag’s 2009 Best Breakthrough Producers Instra:mental transform “At Least” into a blissed-out, bass-heavy 4/4 roller. The second EP features Panorama Bar’s Tama Sumo & Prosumer reworking ‘William’ into a shuffling deep house groove, and Scuba under his SCB guise delivering a murky, cerebral techno remix of “Vertical”.
