One of the most exciting prospects from 2011 was the evil techno merchant Gesaffelstein, not only is he making some of the most up-front dance music around, he’s got one the most unpronounceable production names ever. Better still we have it on good authority his real name is the rather boring Mike.

Ed Banger Records have uploaded the full version of Erol Alkan’s remix of Justice’s next single ‘Canon’. From the early reaction everyone loves it, but for us it just sounds like two tracks poorly tacked together – more a mashup, than a remix – but it’s irrelevant what we think anyway.

Hit or miss ?

We’re not massive fans of MGMT or Erol Alkan, no reason, just not – but his has changed a smidge with a sweet remix of MGMT’s “Congratulations” it wasn’t MGMT’s best ever song, but Erol has done a great job – not his usual banging stuff, maybe he was high or he’s mellowing a little.

Not even sure who or what Late of The Peir are, but they must be pretty frickin’ sweet as they have got the DeWale brothers from Soulwax to remix their new tune and when they get it right, they get it right. We have the video and the Soundcloud. But they do sound different, so who’s the liar?  You decide. Or maybe they did two remixes. Who knows.

Following the sad news that the BBC will close 6 Music – Erol Alkan has uploaded all three of mix show to Mix Cloud, the user-generated, online radio service.

Two of the hardest working brothers in dance music are the Dewaele brothers from Soulwax and 2 Many DJs – they have been touring for so long they may well be suffering from heroin-like addiction to performing live.

They have been touring around the world non-stop for the last 8 years, infecting the world with their infusion of rock and electro music.

Soulwax are from from Ghent, Belgium – consisting of Stephen Dewaele, David Dewaele, Stefaan Leuven and Steve Slingeneyer.

Their success can be traced all the way back to 2003, when the brothers released their first album ‘As heard on Radio Soulwax’ under the alter-egos 2 many DJs.

It consisted of 45 remixed tracks by a series of diverse artists ranging from Dolly Parton to Basement Jaxx.

According to Internet rumours their is even a hidden secret track –  you can access it before the first track and it’s from our favourite australian Kylie Minogue “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head (Soulwax Elektronic Mix).

You accomplished this by pressing play, rewinding for four minutes and 17 seconds and allowing the album to start.

After this song the album moves straight into “Peter Gunn/where’s your head at”.

In 2008 the band released a tour documentary called “Part of the week-end never dies” to critical acclaim.

Armed with a single video camera, director Saam Farahmand set out to capture Radio Soulwax on its mammoth 120-leg international tour.

There are fantastic interviews with James Murphy, Nancy Whang, Erol Alkan, Tiga, Justice, Busy P, So-Me, Peaches, Kitsuné & Klaxons.

The documentary captures the adulation, debauchery, ebullience, reflection, cynicism, tiredness, despair, delusion, ridiculousness, contradiction, revelation, exhaustion, and homesickness of the life of DJ/Band on the road.

Recently the band has been experimenting with visuals during their sets which was showcased at Eden, Ibiza last week – with animated album covers from over the last 30-years including one of the late Michael Jackson singing along to the lyrics of his music.

A showcase of the brothers talents comes from a special mix that they did whilst filling in for Rob Da Bank on the BBC – the first hour is purley intros – 420 to be exact and then a hour-long disco mix.

Filthy Dukes are the latest band to become masters of blurring the genre lines, in an age of pigeon-holing groups and artists, the artists that will have a great year in 2009 will be the ones that you can’t put into one specific genre and Filthy Dukes certainly have that accolade.

They comprise of Olly Dixon and Tim Lawton, who make up two thirds of the band. They started off as a couple of friends DJing and now they have a band.  There sound is amalgamation of many from Kraftwerk to Bloc Party - so you will struggle to pigeon hole them and that will probably suit them.

In recent years they have had very successful night at Fabric in London called Kill em all and have had some the world’s best DJ’s playing alongside them including Justice, Bloc Party and Erol Alkan to name a few.

They sound like the bastard child of all their past club nights, hip hop woven into dirty, fuzzy bass lines a la Justice and seeded with 80′s synth pop hooks.

In February they released the album to great acclaim – as with most personal art forms it is a result of their influences, ranging from Tangerine Dream to Hot Chip, Can to SMD, Roxy Music to Soulwax, Hip Hop to Krautrock.

One thing is for sure these guys know their synths - especially the old ones they recently bought a mixing desk that was used by Konrad Plank who is probably the most important German producer ever, and his creativity as a sound engineering helped to forge some of the most creative works form the Krautrock 70′s scene.

Plank is most reputed for being the producer of Kraftwerk’s early records, helping to configure their innovative and revolutionary sound.

With help from one of the Jedi’s of Electronic music Filthy Dukes look like to they will enjoy even more success and hopefully a whole new live show should cement them as permanent fixture of electronic music.

Here we have a track from their album Non-sense in the dark - its 80′s inspired disco with bouncy basslines, spine-tingling synths and a catchy vocal it’s well worth a listen.
