The music blogosphere might seem like a cut-throat world of trolling and generally taking the piss – but behind the many personalities lies a pretty cool community of like-minded individuals – where we try, most of the time, to support each others endeavours.

With many of the world’s best blogs branching out into all spheres of the music world, it’s great to see Electronic Rumors release a real compilation on where the artists actually get paid. Many people see bloggers as unscrupulous mp3-barrons, but we want to see artists succeed just as much as their respected labels and PR’s.

Electronic Rumours have clearly slaved over many late nights to bring together a project which showcases some of the best artists making Dreamwave, Nu-Disco, ElectroPop and Indie-Electro in the last twelve months. It includes exclusive tracks from Ride The Universe, the much hyped Swiss wonder Show Your Shoe, Futurecop!, beaumont, Substatic and Echoes and the first time on CD for Queen Of Hearts and Ronika – both have been tipped by the mainstream press for chart dominance in 2012.

Aeroplane has finally released his In Flight Entertainment compilation today, the premise behind the project was for Vito further his monthly mixtapes so artist’s actually might make some money, we know a scary thought. A compilation handpicked by Vito that would do Aeroplane’s mixtape series justice and, not only that, be so amazing that you would pay for it. A tall order, yes, but one that he, and the artists who have helped, have accomplished.

If you’re a total noob, it was Aeroplane that made mixtapes cool again; every month, without fail, they’d release an amazing mixtape of hidden gems they played and, most importantly, believed in. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say they probably helped numerous acts along the way just by putting their music in the mixtapes.

Now, we probably thought the same as you. How is he going to make it a worthy purchase? Would he give away a free flight on Vito Airways to some far-flung Disco Island? No. Maybe, a date with the disco looker? No. He would wants to woo your musical senses with a collection of tracks that have never been heard before, tracks made specifically for the compilation mix, from the cream of the crop of up-and-coming nu-disco talent.

Not only do you get the full set of mp3’s that make up the compilation, you also get the fully mixed version. From the moment you fire it up the mix you know you’re in familiar surroundings. Now, we listened to every mixtape from the series, and there’s no doubt this is the very best. Yes. It’s even better than the one you got from Mixmag. He’s created something really quite special. In our mind it’s definitely greater than the sum of it parts. It treads similar ground to an Aeroplane DJ set, but instead its crammed into 61 minutes of high-octane club disco.

Where do we start with the track selection, well it reads like a who’s who of talent, you’ve got Herr Styler’s ‘Zero Ghost Out The Door’ which continues their assault of wonderfully cinematic, yet feverishly odd disco – if you like their remix of Shindu – this one is for you. You’ve got a stunning intro from Poolside, which sounds like a long-lost Air track (when they were amazing). We loved the vocals from up-and-comers Drop Out Orchestra and their track ‘It Will Never Be The Same Again’. You’ll hit the disco g-spot with RipTide’s high-energy ‘Sophie’ – possibly the best track on the whole CD. As you reach towards to the end of mix Vito turns it up a notch with his own offering ‘Save Me Now’ – simply amazing, why wasn’t this on his album? It continues its climatic journey with nuggets of pure euphoric disco-gold from HBF favourite Moonlight Matters, Oliver, Cosmonauts and loads of other hidden talent.

Ultimately Vito, and the artists who make up the mix, manages to achieve that first musical epiphany you had when you first heard an Aeroplane mixtape; that moment where, for many, you knew nu-disco wasn’t just some hipster flash-in-the-pan or just a stopgap until electro becomes good again. Nu-disco in our mind has become something really quite special and this compilation is proof of that.

Moda is of course the brain child of Jaymo & Andy George, they’re like a radio version of  the chuckle brothers but on Radio 1, but they are also so much more than that and so is Moda.

Moda is a collective of young, creative minds focused firmly on new music and killer parties. Between them they run events all over Europe, make everything from club-destroying techno to melancholy indie, present radio shows to millions of people at a time, and run the record label that has taken acts like Fenech Soler, Shake Aletti and Monarchy to the ears of the world.

As a little taster of their first ever compilation, here’s a stream of His Majesty Andre’s track ‘Untitled Vinyl’ which is exclusive to this Moda Compilation. which tip-toes the funky indie- house vibe.

Don Rimini’s brand of french electro has been winning fans all over the place, he’s recently released his very first compilation called ‘The Perfect Prescription’ it’s a intoxicating collection of tacks that the ‘Don’ has been caning over the last 12 months.

Donatello Rimini decided that they had to be released and show the world that the newcomers are real, hungry, mad talented, ready to break rules, and about to re-define dancefloors from Chicago to Marseille.

He’s like any brilliant DJ; he’s adept at finding hidden gems in the endless pages of Beatport, obscure records shops and just about anywhere he can. This compilation is testament to his ability to be a proper good old fashioned rummager.

Everything is in their from french house to quirky rave and everything in between – even a bit of chicago jacking house. The quirkier and more off the radar the better – a shewd collection of party fodder and not a plodding techno track in sight.

As the press release says “8 steps to perfection according to 3 criterias: be new, be creative, be bangin” the ‘Don’ hits all three every time with every track.

Apparently it took a whole year to gather these 8 tracks by 15 DJs/producers from various countries. By my reckoning that’s 1 every 45.625 days. Impressive. It was obviously hard to keep these tracks exclusive, but success prevailed and today you get to discover them in full original unadulterated versions. 100% DJ & dancefloor ready.

Our personal favourites would be Modek’s end of set thriller ‘Quasimodo’ . The Town’s atomic fodder that is ‘Spartanic’, and the heavily filtered french bomb ‘Flashin Part2′ by Tagteam Terror. And we’d throw in Ado’s ‘Plugged’ as a cherry on the top.

HBF Rating 9/10 – 1 mark off due to there only being 8 – dam you 60 minute CD’s.

Mighty Mouse are starting the New Year with a brand new Mix series, the aptly named ‘MouseCast’ is the first in what are sure to be an amazing mixes series, especially if last year’s collection are anything to go by – they always feature cool re-edits and will no doubt be showing off material from the new album in due course.

This year looks like a big one for the cheese loving trio, they are working on their proper full-length and are playing all over the world, with their first Australian tour in March 2011, playing at ‘Future Music Festival’ in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

We gave Mighty Mouse’s new CD 10/10 on Firday, the second time in our short history a CD got a perfect score, if you’ve fallen head-over-heals for nu-disco it is an essential purchase. Hell, even if your not a big disco fan it well worth a punt – perfect for home listening after a heavy night of bass and beats.

Mighty Mouse’s Disco Circus 2 got a big thumbs from us a few weeks ago, it’s a fantastic 2-CD compilation which should be in your collection if you’re a fan of nu-disco. The duo got their remix of Blamma! Blamma!’s “Beyond 17″ played on Radio 1′s Rob Da bank’s show last week – so excited, they’ve decided to give the 320 away – and because it’ll never get a release because of Stevie Nick’s vocal. We win either way.

They have done a fine job with it, reminded us of some early Booka Shade with more than a tinge of disco serenity. They’ve almost finished their October 2010 Mixtape (which includes the Jose Gonzalez edit they’ve being going on about – one of their favourites). Apparently, its got a few other Mighty Mouse exclusives on it. They’ve also done a lovely not so official edit of Abba’s Midnight Mouse. Thank you for the music.

New producer duo Mighty Mouse are about to release their second compilation this September, and if follows hot on the heels of their last Disco Circus compilation which that advertising mag Mixmag placed in their top 10 of 2009.

We’re pleased to announce that their latest offering is every bit as good as the last. The duo have been on fine form recently, after owning Hype Machine and getting the thumbs up from Aeroplane, Rob Da Bank, amongst others. They are about to drop their next 2 CD foray into the world of Nu-Disco.

The first CD comprises of more well known tracks and covers everything from Bot’Ox, The Gorrilaz, SMD, to more obscure tracks from Juslo and Jaques Renault.

Notable highs come in the form of the serene Mario Basanov’s “Do You Remember”  summer time disco classic, with nice synths hooks and tastey disco beats – very much from the Aeroplane nu-disco school of thought.

The have even managed to get their remix of The Gorrilaz remix of “Superfast Jellyfish” on the compilation and is certainly a rarity as the Damon can be a bit funny when it comes to licensing his tracks apparently.

The opening CD is moody and serene in equal measure, with the odd splash of folksy country via Bokoor Band’s “Onukpa Shawarpo”.

Next up, we love the Chic-esque Charanga 76’s “Music Trance” which is more than a bit nostalgic towards 80’s funk.

The first CD more than deviates to traditional idea of nu-disco and keeps the listener interested from start to finish, but fails to keep a coherent flow throughout sometimes.

The duo brings things back down to earth with one of our favourite tracks in the shape of SMD’s “Cruel intentions”. Synth laden disco with a fine female vocal. What more could you ask for?

The middle of the CD might go a bit astray but the duo bring it back to disco roots with the fab The KDMS’ Never Stop Believing”. Moving guitars and clever beats make it a fine choice to finish the CD.

The second CD sees’s them stretch their disco legs, and is Mighty Mouse at their best. The opening track is statement of intent, and it comes in the form of the trashy pop Jinder “Youth Blood” – it reminded us of a talented Kylie, trust me when you hear the vocal I will be vindicated.

The New York inspired disco funk that is DJ Mujava’s “Township Funk” – was next to rear it’s lovely head. Cosmic beats all they way.

Next up we love the duo’s own Command V’s “Lost On Me” stripped back, with a sexy vocal and some tasty synths. It’s a great track to serve up in the middle of the mix and following on comes another Mighty Mouse remix of Luke Million’s “Italo Disco Journey”.

Topping that comes one the duo’s own productions “Jungle Fish” possibly our favourite track across the whole the compilation, truly amazing.

The last third of CD2 catapults this compilation into another level and cements the duo and ones to watch on the next few months. We for one can’t wait for their artist album, which is rumoured to be ready early 2011.

We were pleasantly pleased after listening to Disco Circus 2, there’s more than enough to keep you coming back for more, the second CD certainly steals the show, and if your into your organic disco then you need this CD in your life. Period.

AUGUST 2010 MIXTAPE: Lost In Space by MIGHTY MOUSE by Mighty Mouse

Veteran acidhead Abe Duque has been at forefront of the Acid house movement since his early releases way back in 1993.

Roll on 17 years and he still doing what he does best, his latest CD compilation, which is out this week, called Live And On Acid, is a 2 CD affair and includes three entirely new tracks.  Some of his original work as well as some tasty remixes that have been given a naughties lick of paint.

Acid house was a major part of the rave revolution that hit the UK clubbing scene in the late 80’s and early 90’s and it’s nice to hear some fresh sounding acid cuts.

It’s wonky, warm and cleverly put together – part wild acid, part dark house. Brutally funky basslines and acid influences are all over this release.

You can expect to hear Fingers, Inc Distant Planet, BamBam ‘Give it to me’, Underground Solution ‘Luv Dancin’ Reese ‘The Sound’, Logic ‘The Warning’

This is the first even career retrospective, covering both the live sets he plays now and going all the way back to the house and techno he used to play in the early days of his deejaying.

CD1 is all about Abe right now – the first-ever recording of his awe-inspiring live show that’s gone down a storm everywhere from Berghain to Fabric to Japan to Australia.

CD2 is 16 acid and house classics drawn from Abe’s first days deejaying at New York club Limelight.  It’s an Acid and techno heritage that Abe has drawn on through 18 years of being at the forefront of the Acid movement.

If your looking for a CD that captures those Acid flavours of the last 20 years you can’t go wrong with ‘Live And On Acid” it does exactly as it says on the tin. Now all I need to do is find my whistle and white gloves, close my eyes and I’m in the Hacienda.

SMD are about to return with a new compilation made especially for their new residency at Fixed in New York.

FIXED launched many moons ago in 2004 by DJ’s JDH and Dave P at the Tribeca Grand hotel – it has been massive hit for the city’s somewhat starved club scene.

SMD aren’t the first UK act to take a proper a residency in New York,  Welsh boy Sasha reinvigorated their scene a few years ago when he first started his ableton mixing.

Jas Staw from SMD told us: “The mix we have done for Fixed is based on how we hope our residency with them in New York will pan out.

“Fixed has always been a forum for the deeper and odder end of disco and techno, but without forgetting that it’s still a party.

“We mixed this live in our studio, allowing us to throw some extra effects in there and also a bit of the 808 fromtime to time.”

We have a rather splendid free track to giveaway from the odd-ball duo, called Nerve Salad.

It’s a piece of schizophrenic techno – and sounds like it was conceived in the mind of a person who is very weird – think Sven Vath mixed with stabs of A Clockwork Orange. Very strange indeed. Classic SMD then.

We loved the new Kitsune Maison compilation and the kind people behind this serene compilation have just sent over a The Twelves remix of Two Door Cinema Club’s ‘Something Good Can Work’, and you can have it for free.

Two Door Cinema Club are a electro pop group from Northern Ireland who were snapped up by Kitsune last year. And The Twelves are Brazil’s answer to Daft Punk.

Kitsuné are celebrating the birth of a new baby in the Kitsuné family, he’s called Yumé – which is ‘dream’ in Japanese – this has led them to create the baby friendly Kitsuné Maison 9.

When they conceived the CD – they were breastfeeding their young child in the room next door, so it’s no surprise that Yumé has had an influence on their new Kitsuné Maison compilation.

It’s rested, serene and more contemplative, with a selection of songs that are more Sunday afternoon than Saturday night, more green tea than alcopop.

One of our favourites comes via Yuksek – he may have forgotten about the baby and produced the hardest track of the bunch, called Supermanz, it’s typifies his vocoded vocal work.

We loved the serenity of Washed Out – who are leading the ‘glo-fi scene’ not really sure what it is, but it sounds nice.

We also really liked Felberg who are from Iceland, proof that their not all is bankrupt there. They might be running out of perishables but they still have melodies.

This is certainly a unique selection, and the Kitsuné household has done a great job – the influence from their new-born is all over it – and it’s certainly the most peaceful, motherly Kitsuné you’ll ever hear.

Grab it now before Yumé loses his innocence and becomes a stroppy teenager – we for one can’t wait to hear that compilation.
