The co-founder of Def Jam records and the current head of Columbia records, Rick Rubin, asked Ed Banger if he could remix the new Justice single.

Busy P, a massive fan of Rubin’s work with the Beastie Boys and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, obviously said yes to this honour.

He has remixed Justice’s new single ‘On N On’ – and done a sterling job. It’s the usual stripped back style we’d expect from Rubin.

Rubin is kind of a big deal. Dr Dre once said about the producer: “hands down, the dopest producer ever that anyone would ever want to be, ever.”

‘On ‘N’ On’ EP is out January 30 with remixes from Brodinski, Erol Alkan, Rick Rubin, Tiga and Video Village.

Ed Banger Records will release a Collector Boxset called “The Bee Sides” for Record Store Day on April 16th. “The Bee Sides” includes five unreleased tracks on five etched 7” (limited to 500 copies worldwide). The Ed Banger boys are back in town with an all new compilation, called Let The Children Techno, and it marks a return to form for the infamous French label – yes we know it’s a terrible name – and some what confusing, as we were dreading a CD full of techno.

We couldn’t be anymore wrong, it’s not techno, well there is some In there, but its a good old fashioned compilation straddling every possible genre you can think, house, electro, dubstep, fidget and funk. You can expect to find the all stars of Ed Banger Records including Busy P, Sebastian, Breakbot as well as a plethora of other artists from Djedtronic to Brodinski.

Over the last few years it seemed like Ed Rec were going a bit sideways, their much coveted sound was no longer talk of the town and while some of their bigger names took a back seat – it begun to look and sound like Ed Banger Records was getting a bit stale.

Step forward Breakbot – a man who makes funk – he’s beeen at the forefront of their revival – call him the anti-bangor. And his presence as well the signing of Cassisus and Square Pusher has got people talking about Ed Banger again.

The compilation is jam-packed full of great tracks and all expertly mixed by Busy P and DJ Mehdi – notable tracks to listen out for come via Breakbot’s funk-phenomenon ‘Shades of Blake ‘. Man of the moment Siriusmo’s eosoteric ‘Idiot’. And Mr Oizo intro track which is just superb.

Blog favourite SebastiAn pops his head in for a moment, to show everyone why we’re all still eagerly anticipating his debut album – we’ve been promised it’s coming – and for us it can’t come soon enough.

The whole compilation marks a return to form for Ed Banger Records, it’s weird and wonderful and not the usual blend we’d expect from them.

But they finally look like they are moving on and looking to broaden their horizons – one thing is for sure Busy P has been listening to a lot of Dubstep and you can tell most of the guest spots go to a variety of Dubstepper’s with L-Vis 1990, Skream and Flying Lotus all given the nod on ‘Let The Children Techno’. Ultimately the success of this compilation will come down to ‘Let The Children Choose’ we think that they will.

Ed Banger’s All-Stars; a dream team of producers including Breakbot, So-Me and Busy P. They have joined forces to remix MGMT’s “Siberian Breaks”.

And they’ve decided to take it down the non-epic banger route – making it a lovely languid piece of french electronica – it has an early Air charm to it. All cushions and pillows.

Last year Busy P’s posy got together with Warped Records to throw a party in Paris, called Warp-Ed, it went down a treat and forged a new relationship between the two labels. To take it a step further Squarepusher has just released a new EP on Ed Banger Records, with Mr Oizo on hand for the remix duties.

Squarepusher on the a-side with “Cryptic Motion”, the perfect soundtrack for a remake of Zabriskie Point in 2012, heavy bass that slaps your flesh and some sunset vocoder. Mr Oizo on the b-side for an epileptic p-funk remix only him can twist that way.

Ed Banger Records celebrated its seventh birthday a few weeks ago and to celebrate the fact they made seven part mini documentary that Busy P aka Pedro Winter has been releasing on his Gimpbook page.

If you have seen Justeece’s A Cross The Universe DVD, you’ll have some idea what to expect – it chronicles their time on New York as they get ready to play a massive gig featuring 7 of their best artists. In no particular order; Justice, Breakbot, Uffie, Feadz, Busy P, Sebastian, Medhi, Some & Mr flash are all present.

The first epeisode starts in the ususal dramatic manner with Busy P facing the real possibility of not being able to make the Gig due severe weather in New York – but the ED REC 7 grow a pair and make sure they make it.

The Ed Banger Seven (but I counted 8 ?) touched down in New York safely after a flight of producing, sleeping, playing Nintendo and general french tom-foolery. Next we are greeted with OMG crew who just love Ed Banger – and what’s not to like. The Justice boys grab a pre-show hotdog to the sounds of Sebastian. Whilst the rest of the crew gorge themselves on the best of American fat. Classy.

Episode 3 catches the crew as they are about to go to the show and of course they are running late. And the crew realises they are playing at a under-age party ! Only in America. 3100 screaming teen america’s – going crazy to french electro. Jocks not included.

Next up we’re at the venue and Busy is being usual nice french dude – meeting all the crowd – rather sad really, it looked like a wrestling convention. Weird. But you can’t be impressed with how much love they’re getting. All to hip warm-up track Pocket Piano. As one geek says “French house and techno is the best” – what does he know? We are then treated to Uffie – the latest female to join the ED Banger crew.

Next Episode we are treated to some amazing skills from A-Trak who sends the crowd wild – a true master of mixology. But as usual is overshadowed by the bosses of the crosses Justice, who bang out their best tracks with usual flair that Xavier brings to the decks. Just wait until you see him mix in “It Aint Over ‘Til It’s Over” by Lenny Kravits standing up.

The Ed Crew go onto the after-party where Sebastian shows how to do a dramatic breakdown; with his seven minute track that never breaks or does it? Let’s hope some of this is on his new album – whenever he can be bothered to finish it. Soon please.

The final episode is made up of the commercial commitments of ED Banger and their new EDnies sponsorship deal – a new trainer they are bringing out with the help of American skater company Etnies. After all Busy P and Breakbot used to skate together.

So Ed Banger are seven years old – we can’t wait to see the film they make for the tenth birthday!

Scotland’s Rockness festival have secured the service of French Supergroup Club 75 for their next summer festival taking place from 11-13th June.

Club 75 consist of Xavier from Jusitce, Cassius, DJ Mehdi and Ed Banger boss Busy P who team up as a 5-way tag team session. (think of a five-way french Legion of Doom minus the should pads)

Over the summer this tag-team gave us a little sample of what they can achieve at their Club night at Paris’ Social CLub, and they treated the lovely people at Pacha Ibiza to an exclusive set the summer.

Festival director Jim King said: “As far as I’m concerned its simply the most exciting DJ collective ever. Where else would you get Justice meets Cassius meets Ed Banger’s finest, all in the same booth at the same time. If you miss this then you can’t be into electronic music. I’ve already booked 4 hours off to go and watch them.”

Former manager of Daft Punk and Ed Banger Record label owner Busy P has had a message relayed from Daft Punk’s new management confirming that their will be no new world tour. Or has it ?

Busy P said: “Just got this email from the Punk’s manager. Too bad, I guess we’ll all have to wait to see the robots on stage again” he said. He relayed the following message from Daft Punk’s management on his Cool Cats blog.

“There are no tour dates currently planned for Daft Punk. The recent rumors of a Daft Punk tour are false. We would like to ensure that no fans are taken advantage of by fictitious rumors of upcoming shows.”

I decided to do some digging and came across Daft Punk’s official Alive 2007 website, checking the latest news it says that their had been a scam earlier in the year falsely claiming a a secret gig in Shangri, China. This was denied by the band and the statement went on to say “the band are look forward to touring China during their next world tour in 2010 or 2011″.

The statement directly contradicts their latest statement – so the story continues.

Two of the hardest working brothers in dance music are the Dewaele brothers from Soulwax and 2 Many DJs – they have been touring for so long they may well be suffering from heroin-like addiction to performing live.

They have been touring around the world non-stop for the last 8 years, infecting the world with their infusion of rock and electro music.

Soulwax are from from Ghent, Belgium – consisting of Stephen Dewaele, David Dewaele, Stefaan Leuven and Steve Slingeneyer.

Their success can be traced all the way back to 2003, when the brothers released their first album ‘As heard on Radio Soulwax’ under the alter-egos 2 many DJs.

It consisted of 45 remixed tracks by a series of diverse artists ranging from Dolly Parton to Basement Jaxx.

According to Internet rumours their is even a hidden secret track –  you can access it before the first track and it’s from our favourite australian Kylie Minogue “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head (Soulwax Elektronic Mix).

You accomplished this by pressing play, rewinding for four minutes and 17 seconds and allowing the album to start.

After this song the album moves straight into “Peter Gunn/where’s your head at”.

In 2008 the band released a tour documentary called “Part of the week-end never dies” to critical acclaim.

Armed with a single video camera, director Saam Farahmand set out to capture Radio Soulwax on its mammoth 120-leg international tour.

There are fantastic interviews with James Murphy, Nancy Whang, Erol Alkan, Tiga, Justice, Busy P, So-Me, Peaches, Kitsuné & Klaxons.

The documentary captures the adulation, debauchery, ebullience, reflection, cynicism, tiredness, despair, delusion, ridiculousness, contradiction, revelation, exhaustion, and homesickness of the life of DJ/Band on the road.

Recently the band has been experimenting with visuals during their sets which was showcased at Eden, Ibiza last week – with animated album covers from over the last 30-years including one of the late Michael Jackson singing along to the lyrics of his music.

A showcase of the brothers talents comes from a special mix that they did whilst filling in for Rob Da Bank on the BBC – the first hour is purley intros – 420 to be exact and then a hour-long disco mix.
