Alex Metric had a very successful 2011 with the release of his remixes album and to celebrate the New Year Metter’s is giving away his 2007-esque electro track ‘Raveaggeddon’ via his Facebook page.

2012 should see the prolific remixer finally release his first debut album which has already been canned once because he wasn’t happy with it.

There’s going to be quite a few tracks given away over the festive period so we thought we’d lump them altogether (we’re lazy like that) over the course of the next week or so.

First up, we have the very first Oliver EP, which is coming out on Kitsune, they’re giving away a mini-mix of the entire EP, which comes with two remixes and 3 originals.

We’ve had a peep and the quality of production is just flawless – in the nicest possible way it has that clean, crisp sound that Prydz is famed for – but instead of house, it’s classy fist-pumping disco. It’s out January 16, with remixes from Punks Jump Up and Black Van.

Alex Metric has built himself quite the reputation as the go-to-guy for stunning remixes lately – so it wouldn’t be a bad thing if he compiled his finest work into one handy mixed CD – this is ‘Open Your Eyes’.

The remix roster reads like the phone book of Jay Z – it’s a testament to his selection process and where so far he hasn’t done a bad remix. The only thing we can compare it to is Yuksek’s remix mixtape which he did last year – ‘Open Your Eyes’ is of that level. It’s crammed full of the worlds top music acts – you’ll find everything from N.E.R.D, Phoenix, Fenech Soler, Depeche Mode and Bloc Party to The Beastie Boys, La Roux and The Gorillaz.

In total you get 14 tracks, made up of 11 remixes and two collaborations – the CD opens with his French electro remix of The Phoenix’s ‘Litszomania’ and Metric’s electro disco rendition more than lives up to the billing. Muddy bass lines, sassy vocals and pop sensibilities combine to make it one of the stand out tracks. It then mixes into the Gorrilaz’s ‘Stylo’ – this is the best Gorillaz remix you will find anywhere – it clatters along with slapping claps, driving disco synths, sharp vocals and thudding kicks.

In many ways Alex Metric’s remix style treads the similar ground to French electro wizz-kid Yuksek – who is also famed for amazing remixes. There’s just something about the way he combines the energy of electro with a thick smattering of organic disco goodness and a wide palette of pop influences. The French electro theme continues through to his remix of N.E.R.D’s ‘Hypnotize You’ with nervy synths at the beginning combining with the main synth hook for track that builds and builds. The pay-off comes in the form of the mix into Fenech Soler’s ‘Lies’.

The CD continues the chaotic pace with the skittish synths of Ellie Goulding’s high octane ‘Salt Skin’ the euphoria of La Roux’s ‘Quicksand’ and the thrash-rock of The Beastie Boy’s seminal hit ‘Sabotage’ – by the final few songs you’ve been treated to mix that has slapped, kicked and pulled you through the best of the last 20’s years of popular culture – all through the minds-eye of an electro artist at the top of his game.

By the end of it you’re left totally convinced by the pedigree of Alex Metric – we’d say he’s probably the most exciting electro artist in the UK at the moment – he’s now set the bar extremely high for his debut album but if his remixes album is anything to by it’s going to be one wide ride.

Alex Metric’s new single with Steve Angello is a proper grower, we first got hold of a copy a while ago and loved it, and it just seems to be getting better with time.

Style Of Eye’s new remix feat. Ian Brown is probably going to take it to another level, and its even made it on to the top spot on the Radio 1′s infamous a-list playlist. Which is about as good as it gets when it comes to radio play.

Last week we were invited down to London and the hallow ground that is Maida Vale Studios to celebrate the 20 year Radio 1 career of the legend Pete Tong.

Pete Tong has been at the helm of youth dance culture for 2 decades, whether it’s getting you ready for your Friday night, scoring films or his Ibiza Residency – he’s had one hell of a career. And to celebrate Mr Tong handpicked a load of artist’s to help him celebrate this milestone.

Say what you will about Mr Tong, there’s no doubt that you will have captivated you at some point by his Friday night shows, his always-on-the-money track selection and of course the infamous Essential Mix show – which to this day is still seen by many as the pinnacle of their careers.

The recording will be going out on April 8th and trust us when we say it’s a must listen we were treated to a wide variety of acts that had been picked by the man himself.

It all kicked off with the amazing Noisettes who caught our ear with their cover of Dennis Ferrer’s ‘Hey Hey Hey’ amongst others.

Then after a quick change over Parisian House DJ Martin Solvieg span some records and was accompanied by female vocalist Dragonnette – as they pumped out ‘Hello,’ we were even treated to live PA from Martin himself – the cherry on the top was Solveig dropping Justice’s new track ‘Civilzation’ which he then mixed into man of the moment Siriusmo and his track ‘Mosaik’.

Next up it was one half of Gelometric, Alex Metric, who was accompanied by vocalist Charlie XCX – who made quite an impression – she jumped around the stage so much she showed off her underwear – not that anyone complained – he played some new material including his ‘Open Your Eye’s’ and some new material that sounded like some trashy electro dubstep – all in all it was a great set.

Chase & Status were on hand to take proceedings into the grime and dubstep game and they even dropped his their latest single with again another live PA – we didn’t catch her name – as we’d had quite a few beers – but they raised the roof.

Guy Gerber was nominated to drop some techno and house music, as he unleashed his usual blend of melodic deep house and techno – and managed to get the crowd shuffling to his beat.

Then we were treated to a musical education from uncle Gonzo aka Chilly Gonzales, who pretty much stole the show with an opening of ‘Knight Moves’ and then the catchiest track around at the moment ‘You Can Dance’ with a backing vocals from what he described as an “oestrogen genocide” which just so happened to be three very good looking ladies. Bizarrely he played the piano in his dressing gown. But this just added the magic of his short but sweet comedic rap/stand up set.

And to finish the show we were treated to a mix from DJ duo Groove Armada who actually managed to get the invited crowd dancing. They did this by making a DJ set from tracks that Pete had selected as Essential New Tunes from the last 20 years – to say this was amazing would be a understatement – the best was quite clearly left until last.

Alex Metric and Steve Angello, or as we call it Gelometric, have announced today that the un-named vocalist to join the the collaboration is none other than Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown.

Alex said: “It is truly amazing for me to have someone whose music has had such an impact on what I do singing on “Open Your Eyes”. It was an honour to work with him. He sounds fantastic on the track and lyrically manages to capture the epic quality of the instrumental. So proud of our version; Ian brown I salute you!”

Best known as the former lead singer of The Stone Roses, this is a new direction for Ian Brown who said: “I’m made up to be on board”.

Alex Metric will release an album, also entitled ‘Open Your Eyes’, later in the summer and will feature original material, remixes and productions.

Open Your Eyes” will be released on 1st May 2011 through Postiva/Virgin Records.

Yesterday we featured an amazing new track from Gelometric or as it is in the real world Alex Metric and Steve Angello’s peak-time stopper “Open Your Eyes”.

Well the powers that be have allowed us to upload the radio edit so you can stream it; mainly because who wants to hear Pete Tong talking over great music. Not me. Lookout for the instrumental on Beatport late January and the vocal version in March with an album following soon after.

Last year saw many weird and wonderful collaborations; our favourite was Squarepusher and the Ed Banger Records crew. Well a rather unexpected collaboration has come to our attention and it’s Alex Metric and Steve Angello – they’ve come together and created “Open Your Eyes”.

Rest assured it’s not pap, it’s actually very good indeed, Metric’s trashy production with Angello’s unapologetic swirling big-room sound makes for a real good peak-time track.

‘Open Your Eyes’ will be released as an instrumental on Beatport on 31st January. It’s then getting a follow up release on 20th March 2011 which will feature an indie legend delivering a top line vocal! An Album, also entitled ‘Open Your Eyes’, will follow a few weeks later too. Not sure what the collaboration is called but we vote for Gelometric.

You’ll no doubt be hearing this in the summer mark my words.

In what must be the cameo of the decade so far, Bruce Willis has popped up in the new Gorillaz video for their new track Stylo.

During the video Willis is chasing the Gorillaz characters through the desert, as he unloads what must be one of the biggest guns we have seen into the fleeing car.

The live action is combined with CGI animations that even Pixar would be proud of. It’s incredible.

The Gorillaz are about to release their latest single, Stylo, it hasn’t caught our imagination quite like their previous work, but it is early days; the Gorillaz have a habit of making music that gradually seeps into your mind through the process of osmosis and then won’t leave.

There are a few remixes that are floating around around the blogoshpere, many have burned-up during re-entry. Alex Metric’s effort has been rejected for some unknown reason, it’s probably his best remix and deserves a release. So if your listening or reading Mr & Mrs AR you have been told. One remix that did get the go ahead was Yuksek’s, and he has given it away on his blog this morning.

The Stylo video debuts Feb 27th – should be the usual blend of CGI and cartoons.

Radio 1 & 1Xtra will be hosting a live weekend of shows from Newcastle on the 4th-6th March featuring loads of new and live music from several venues across the city.

Featuring live performances from many of 2010′s top artists including; Delphic, The Japanese Popstars, Will Atkinson, Alex Kidd, Alex Metirc and many more.

Leeds’ Filth are celebrating their 3rd birthday on the 26th February and they have organised one hell of a party.

Faithless, Funkagenda, and John Dahlback will all rock the o2 Academy, Leeds and help Filth celebrate their third birthday.

Faithless will be bringing their Live Soundsystem down to play their biggest hits and new material from their forthcoming 2010 LP ‘Calling all the Faithful’.

Other notable inclusions will be Alex Metric who has stormed the scene this year including a breathtaking NYE set at the WHP – which impressed everyone who saw it.

Expect the O2 to be filled with motley crew of breathers, acrobats, stunt performers, blasts of ice cannons to get lost in, some mind bending visuals and the usual red-hot Filth dancers!
