Lady Gaga makes £100 from a million Spotify plays
For those of you that thought Swedish-based music streaming company Spotify was going to save the music industry can rest easily, Lady Gaga has achieved the poultry sum of £100 from a million plays of her single poker face.
The 1 million plays were accrued over a five month period. If one of the biggest pop stars in the world – and one of the very most popular artists on Spotify – is earning such a pittance from it, you can only imagine what others are making from it.
A Swedish recording artist told econsultancy.com: “It is totally sick. We musicians have no rights, you may not charge [for music] any more.”

Well hopefully now that they are fully integrated with download store 7digital, artists will see some bigger revenues coming through Spotify. As much as we love the service, this is not hugely encouraging news however you look at it.
