We were kindly asked to take part in Breaking More Waves’ ‘Blog Sound of 2013’. Its concept was a simple one: an alternative to the BBC’s Sound of 2013 based on bloggers votes and not pseudo celebrities.

Obviously we were hesitant about being included, not because we didn’t like the idea – but we knew it would end up being a list of names we have no interest in, and our suggestions would almost certainly not appear on the final list.

Not surprisingly, we were right, none of our nominations made the final cut, and to be honest we’ve never really heard any of the acts on the final shortlist, apart from the odd one in passing. But from the face of it, there doesn’t seem to be any dance music.

So what does this mean? Well, one of three things: we have no idea what were talking about and have terrible taste in music. 2: we haven’t got our finger on the pulse of emotional indie buzz-bands. Or 3: we should take part in a list where theres clearly there’s going to be a bias towards indie or rock music. Still, the concept was commendable, and we can all now check out some new talent, and who knows maybe we’ll like what we hear.

Now that the shortlist has been narrowed down, the five acts with the most votes, including the winner of The Blog Sound Of 2013, will be announced on January 3 next year to coincide with the BBC’s announcement.
